Mission Success: Same Same But Different 2025

From the moment you stepped in through the gates at Lake Perris, you knew this wasn’t just another music festival — it was a living, breathing world, unfolding in front of you. Over three sunbaked days, Same Same But Different wove together adventures, artistic surprises, and pure communal bliss. What struck me most wasn’t the headliners (though they were stellar) — it was the energy, the curiosity, the countless side quests pulling you in every direction.

The World of SSBD

The festival grounds felt intentionally designed — not just for efficiency, but for discovery. You could wander down a path and suddenly find a hidden art installation shimmering in the trees, a pop-up drum circle, a yoga sound bath, or a random side stage by the water. There was always something happening. That sense of possibility — that you might stumble on a moment you didn’t even know you needed.

And the energy was infectious. People weren’t just showing up to see big names; they were showing up to explore, to dance, to interact. Conversations sprang up at art booths, in line for food, in kayaks floating in the water. Strangers became friends in a matter of minutes.

Beyond the Headliners: The Hidden Gems

Yes, the headliners — LSZEE, Zeds Dead, Dr. Fresch, and others — delivered. Big drops, poignant transitions, festival-scale spectacle. But what I’ll remember longest are the sets from artists I had no idea about before the weekend. Artists whose names were new to me, but whose sounds carried me deep into new moods. Eclectic blends of bass, world rhythms, ambient textures, glitch, and experimental. Those surprise performances kept me on my toes — sometimes I’d wander toward a stage just for curiosity, then stay for an hour, utterly hypnotized.

That diversity is one of SSBD’s greatest strengths. It doesn’t rely on the same formula — it trusts the curators, it trusts the crowd’s spirit of openness.

Same Same But Different Lake Stage

Floating in Sound: Lake Sessions & Nakey Island

One of the most magical things: enjoying music on the water. The lake stages offered an entirely different atmosphere. Your senses shift — the lap of water, the reflection of light on the surface, the gentle rocking — all blending with the beats. You’d drift by in a float, feel the sand between your toes, and suddenly your body is absorbing music differently.

And then there’s Nakey Island. People dancing freely, removed from the core of the festival, pure joy. It felt like a secret ceremony sometimes. The beats, the bodies, the energy were raw and generous. When the sun dipped low, the vibes there were among the festival’s deepest moments.

Same Same But Different Vendors

Side Quests & Art Everywhere

SSBD doesn’t settle for “main stage plus food trucks.” No — it thrives on side quests. “What’s behind that scrim?” “What’s happening behind that veil?” Every corner offered something unexpected:

  • Interactive art installations you could walk through, climb on, or trigger with motion
  • Workshops from flow arts to sound healing to trance yoga
  • Hidden pop-ups late at night
  • Beach parties, lakeside chill zones, secret paths
  • Ambient sound walks, meditation zones, mini performances in secluded pockets

These “mini-worlds” lent texture and depth to the festival. At no point did you feel pinned down; your pace, your path, your experience could wind and branch.

LSDream’s Lightcode Experience

In the midst of all the high energy, one of the most transcendent experiences came from LSDREAM’s Lightcode Sound Bath. As the day was getting started after a night full of dancing, hundreds gathered — some sitting cross-legged, others lying on the grass — to let the frequencies wash over them.

Lightcode wasn’t a “set” in the traditional sense. It was a collective exhale — an invitation to realign, breathe, and tune inward. LSDREAM guided the crowd through waves of ambient tones, cosmic hums, and crystalline synths that felt equal parts ancient and futuristic. The vibrations seemed to ripple through the air itself, mixing with the lake’s reflection and the quiet murmur of nature.

It was surreal to watch festivalgoers — many who had been headbanging hours before — now lying still, eyes closed, hands resting gently on the earth. For sixty minutes, the energy shifted from outward expression to inward connection. When it ended, the crowd rose slowly, glowing. You could feel the stillness in everyone — a shared reset before diving back into the night’s chaos.

Moments like that are what make Same Same But Different truly live up to its name.

Same Same But Different

The Collective Energy — Your Own Soundtrack

Throughout the festival, what tied everything together was people’s energy. Even during the downtimes — dusk, sunrise, transitions — you could feel chatter, laughter, hums of music somewhere, movement. Nobody sat still too long; even in rest, there was a pulse. The crowd felt participatory, not passive.

You’d catch yourself glancing upward at art pieces overhead, or sidestepping into a glowing tunnel, or being rung into a drum circle you stumbled into. That openness of space, of mind, of willingness — made the whole event richer.

Notable Highlights (Moments That Will Stay)

  • Watching an unexpected mid-afternoon set by a “small” artist turn into one of my favorite hours
  • Drifting on a float during a lake set, watching lasers and starlight blend
  • The whole Nakey Island sunset — dancers, waves, minimal barriers
  • Discovering an art piece late at night that shifted in light and shadow as you passed
  • The moment when a little workshop turned into a full jam session
  • Morning acroyoga on the lake’s edge

Final Impressions

Same Same But Different 2025, for me, was one of the top festival experiences I’ve had. The experience holds together because heart holds it together. It’s a festival that trusts participants to bring their curiosity, their energy, and their willingness to be surprised. I came with friends and left with even more.

If I had to sum it up: it felt less like “going to a festival” and more like “entering a living realm.” A world made of sound, art, water, movement, and connection. And I came out with new favorites, new stories, new friendships, and a renewed sense of what a festival can be.

Mission Success: Escape To Coconino

The pine-covered peaks of Flagstaff trembled last weekend as hundreds of bass lovers flocked to the Pepsi Amphitheater for Escape to Coconino. Across two high-octane nights, fans were transported to a forest rave fueled by deep subs and desert energy.

Friday kicked off with moody dubstep and experimental bass, setting a sinister tone beneath the star-soaked sky. Nealson opened with melodic tension, weaving emotion through halftime grooves. YDG brought the heat, blending bass grit with hair-raising sound design. As the temperature dropped, Of The Trees turned up the pressure with mind-bending textures and cerebral flow. Their set reminded the crowd that sometimes, less is infinitely more.

Saturday flipped the script, delivering full-throttle chaos and high-energy sets across the board. Austeria electrified early arrivals with glitchy hooks and festival-ready anthems. Jantsen followed with maximum velocity, layering thick, crunchy dubstep with genre-jumping style with ease. Ravenscoon dialed up the funk and filthy wobble, rallying the crowd with banger after banger. His chemistry on stage felt effortless, but the execution was pure mastery; Always a pleasure.

The night hit maximum velocity with Boogie T, whose swampy basslines and funk-laced drops turned the forest into a full-blown party. Ganja White Night closed the weekend with a cinematic journey through wobble bass and storytelling sound design. Their signature blend of reggae influence, melodic depth, and massive drops cast a spell over the forest. Lasers danced across the trees with the crowd fully immersed. It was a finale worthy of a legend.

Escape to Coconino wasn’t just another show — it was a full-body experience in nature’s rave haven. Surrounded by towering trees and mountain silence, the music somehow felt louder. As the final basslines echoed through the forest, Escape to Coconino proved that Flagstaff belongs on the national bass music map.

Launch Guide: Escape To Coconino

Happy Escape To Coconino! The time is officially here, Cocos, and we have some key details to help ensure you have a smooth weekend. The festival heads back to the Pepsi Amphitheater in Fort Tuthill County Park. The festival amenities this year include various food and craft vendors, but please note that this event is a cashless festival.

This year, Relentless Beats listened to the community and moved to a weekend where more fans could attend Escape To Coconino. With that came some restrictions and the unexpected challenge of limited camping availability. Rather than wait another year to reunite, they decided to embrace the adventure. If you are still looking for lodging for the weekend, you can reference this guide for recommended nearby options.

2025 Set Times

Lift Off: Same Same But Different 2025

Each September, as the heat lingers just a little longer in Southern California, something begins to stir on the shores of Lake Perris. The winds pick up, the energy shifts, and thousands begin preparing to gather again, not just for a festival, but for an experience.

Same Same But Different has always lived up to its name. It’s not your typical dust-stained desert throwdown. It’s a soulful lakeside retreat—a psychedelic playground where music, nature, and intentionality collide. And this year, from September 26–28, the beloved boutique festival returns with its most immersive experience yet.

What a Lineup!

This year’s lineup is a genre-hopping, energy-raising celebration of sound. Headlining the weekend is a moment many fans have dreamed of: LSZEE, the fusion of LSDREAM and CloZee‘s collaborative project. It’s a pairing destined to open hearts and expand minds under the stars, blending glitchy psychedelia, grounded bass, and transcendent textures in a way that few artists can achieve.

If that wasn’t enough, Zeds Dead is also set to return to the beach with their signature blend of dubstep, deep house, and melodic intensity, sure to rattle the sand beneath your feet. Meanwhile, Dr. Fresch brings the late-night groove to create the perfect soundtrack for dancing barefoot after midnight.

The bill also features rising stars like ALLEYCVT, SoDown, Sam Blacky, Wonky Willa, Polar Bears, Opiuo, and BOOGIE T.RIO, each curating their own pocket of storytelling across the weekend. What unites them isn’t genre—it’s energy. From sunrise yoga to late-night journeys, SSBD’s lineup is less about who’s popular and more about what resonates.

A Venue That Breathes

Set within the stunning expanse of Lake Perris State Park, Same Same But Different offers something that most music festivals don’t: water. Real, swimmable, floatable water—and lots of it.

By day, the beach turns into a floating party as dozens of inflatables surround the shoreline, DJs spin on the sand, and the sun shines across the lake. By night, the entire venue transforms. Pathways glow with LED art installations, and campgrounds erupt with renegade sound camps and storytelling circles. You’re not just attending a concert—you’re stepping into an entirely different reality.

With a capped attendance of around 7,500, the experience remains intimate and intentional. You can find your friends. You can connect with strangers who feel like old friends. You can dance without shoulder-to-shoulder chaos. It’s a vibe that reminds you why you fell in love with festivals in the first place.

Sustainability, Rooted in Action

What truly sets Same Same But Different apart isn’t the lineup or the location—it’s the mission. At the heart of SSBD is a deep respect for the Earth, and the festival’s sustainability efforts are woven into every aspect of the weekend.

SSBD has pledged to become a zero-waste festival by 2029, and their actions speak louder than any press release. Every waste station is staffed by volunteers trained to help you properly sort compost, recycling, and landfill, turning an everyday task into a community effort. In 2024 alone, they diverted more than a ton of recyclable and compostable material from the landfill, including over 800 pounds of aluminum and nearly 300 pounds of plastic.

In partnership with Trees for the Future, every ticket sold helps plant a tree—over 25,000 have already been planted thanks to SSBD’s growing community. It’s not just a party with a conscience, it’s a party that gives back.

Attendees are encouraged to “Leave It Better,” a gentle but powerful ethos echoed across campsites, beaches, and dance floors. Whether you’re picking up someone else’s can or bringing reusable water bottles and cutlery, you’re part of something larger than yourself. A movement. A culture of care.

Camping Is Its Own Adventure

Camping at SSBD is more than a place to crash—it’s where the magic begins. Whether you’re tucked into a shaded grove with friends or parked with your RV overlooking the lake, the campground pulses with creativity and connection. Impromptu jam sessions break out at 2 AM. Lights flicker from makeshift stages. The boundary between festival and campsite blurs completely.

For many, this is where the most memorable moments happen—over shared snacks, sunrise conversations, and starlit laughter with new friends you somehow feel like you’ve always known.

A Final Word Before We Float

Same Same But Different isn’t about the biggest stage or the flashiest pyrotechnics. It’s about the vibe. The realness. The reconnection to music, to community, and to the planet. It’s for the daydreamers, the wanderers, the ones who crave more than just a good lineup—those who crave meaning. With festivals on the rise, attendees search for something that pushes the boundaries and gives them something fresh and unique.

Whether you’re coming for the bass, the beach, or the beautiful humans that make this experience unlike any other, one thing is certain: this is where you’re meant to be.

We’ll see you in the water!

Mission Success: Electric Forest 2025

Electric Forest 2025 delivered yet another magical and unforgettable weekend, solidifying its legacy as one of the most memorable editions in the festival’s storied history. From legendary returns to Rothbury and unexpected b2b sets to rising stars making their mark, this year’s Forest had something for everyone. With extended hours and endless surprises, Electric Forest reminded us once again that it’s not just a festival—it’s an entire world of its own.

The Music

The Observatory on Thursday (Photo credit: Alive for Electric Forest)

Thursday kicked off the weekend with electric energy. Mersiv’s two-set takeover of the Observatory, Smoakland b2b Seth David, Lumasi, and Austeria b2b Veil set the tone for the weekend with raw, bass-heavy bliss. Later that night, Justice lit up Ranch Arena with an iconic performance that had both long-time fans and newcomers in awe. Dimension delivered another hard-hitting DnB set for the second year in a row, engraving his name as a Forest staple.

Worship @ Tripolee Stage on Friday (Photo credit: Alive for Electric Forest)

Friday brought the bass to Tripolee, with Crankdat, Tape B, Eater, Ray Volpe, Wreckno, and YDG lighting up the stage. Worship (Sub Focus, 1991, Culture Shock, and Dimension) closed the night with a dream DnB set that had the dancefloor shaking for over an hour.

Levity b2b Crankdat b2b Tape B @ Ranch Arena on Saturday (Photo credit: Alive for Electric Forest)

Saturday held some of the weekend’s most buzzworthy moments. BLAAP—Of The Trees and Freddy Todd’s experimental duo—delivered a high-energy, psychedelic set tucked deep in the Forest, with a surprise on-stage rap performance from Wreckno. But the true surprise came when a surprise Levity b2b2b was quietly added to the lineup, sparking a wave of speculation across the Forest. The mystery was revealed on Friday: Tape B and Crankdat—fresh off a massive b2b at EDC—joined forces again, along with the Levity boys. What followed was a thunderous, unforgettable performance at Ranch Arena that had fans packed deep into the woods.

Zeds Dead @ Ranch Arena on Saturday (Photo credit: Alive for Electric Forest)

Zeds Dead followed, raising the bar even higher with a masterclass in storytelling. Opening with their recent signature, euphoric, channel-flipping visuals, the duo seamlessly blended nostalgic favorites with unreleased IDs, striking a perfect balance between past and future and giving long-time ZD fans a set reminiscent of years past.

Beltran @ Tripolee Stage on Sunday (Photo credit: Alive for Electric Forest)

Sunday closed the festival on a high, with house and techno at Tripolee courtesy of Beltran, Riordan, and Loco Dice. Mochakk, despite a late arrival, brought infectious energy to his set, while Fisher ended the night with a massive party featuring hit after hit. Of The Trees returned with a slower, more intricate solo set—providing the perfect contrast to BLAAP’s chaos the night before.

Honeycomb Gets Shaken

Photo credit: Ethan Desjardine, Moon Lvnding

Every year, the Honeycomb stage gives birth to a set destined for Forest legend. In 2023, it was Levity’s forest debut. 2024 brought another incredible set from the trio and a genre-bending set from Westend that included an electric wine-bag slap. For 2025, Whethan might take the crown. His night-time set blended bass-heavy beats with rap cuts from Three 6 Mafia, Kid Cudi, and Yeat, plus an unreleased GRiZ ID. It was the kind of set that leaves the forest floor bouncing—and fans talking long after.

An Unforgettable Moment

One of the most heartfelt moments of the weekend came during Wreckno’s set, when the Michigan native paused mid-performance to propose to his now-fiancée, Alree. The crowd erupted in celebration, capturing the joy and authenticity that define Electric Forest. In a weekend full of highs, it was a moment of pure magic and love—one that will go down in Forest history.

The Dream Emporium

(Photo credit: Alive for Electric Forest)

Back and more magical than ever, the Dream Emporium transported attendees into an alternate dimension of surreal escapism. Festival-goers climbed a bunk bed into a secret cloud-filled attic, got rinsed in a literal human car wash, floated in a canoe down a glowing electric moat, and stumbled into boxing matches and down a giant slide. The Dream Emporium is a living, breathing collection of dreams that takes its visitors to a diverse collection of worlds. The experience is never the same twice—but always unforgettable.

No Afters, No Problem

Photo: Ethan Desjardine
(Photo credit: Ethan Desjardine, Moon Lvnding)

While fans were disappointed to hear the EVOL Afterparty stage would not be making a return this year (along with its beloved SubJohnics b2b sets), Electric Forest responded with extended festival hours—keeping the music going until 4 a.m. This allowed fans more time with their favorite headliners and added space to explore Sherwood after dark. It may not have replaced the Afters entirely, but it gave the Forest family more time together—and that’s what matters most.

(Photo credit: Alive for Electric Forest)

As the final notes echoed through the trees, Electric Forest 2025 once again left its mark on the community with its unmatched love, energy, and magical surprises. With every set, moment, and member of the Forest Family dancing under the lights among the trees, the Forest reminds us to create lifelong memories with those we cherish most. It continues to inspire us to dream a little wilder, dance a little longer, and return home feeling a little more whole.

The Forest Experience

Electric Forest isn’t just a music festival—it’s a fully immersive environment. Hidden art installations, interactive performance areas, and spontaneous moments of connection blur the line between reality and fantasy. You may come for the lineup, but stay for the Forest.

Each year brings new surprises and additions, from secret stages to tucked-away lounges and costumed characters that make the woods feel alive. Veterans will tell you that no matter how many Forests you attend, you never see it all—and that’s part of the magic.

The Stages of Electric Forest

Ranch Arena: The massive main stage with an iconic castle-style backdrop, perfect for big headliners under the open sky.

Tripolee Stage: A fan-favorite stage for house heads and headbangers, Tripolee lies right as you enter the festival grounds; it is often the first and last stop for festivalgoers to dance or even ride a Ferris wheel!

Carousel Club: To the right of the Dream Emporium is the Carousel Club, a completely covered stage with a carnival aesthetic.

Sherwood Court: Known for its light shows and ambiance, Sherwood Court transforms as the night falls, blending deep visuals and lighting for an immersive experience.

The Observatory: A tucked-away stage with tiered viewing decks and an intimate atmosphere.

Honeycomb: A high-energy, 360-degree stage nestled in the trees. A highlight in 2024 with Levity’s viral performance.

Jubilee: Inside a whimsical tent lies Jubilee, a smaller stage with playful lighting that hosts a wide range of acts, not just EDM!

The Dream Emporium

The enchanting Dream Emporium is my favorite experience within the Forest and a must-visit within the venue. Entering the Dream Emporium is like stepping through a magical portal with rooms full of mystery, surprises, and discoveries. There is so much to do and see within the Emporium walls, and even with an entire day dedicated to the building, you may still miss something! Inside, you might find a human car wash, a secret DJ set, or something far stranger. It’s not something you visit—it’s something you explore. Don’t rush it.

Weather Forecast

The Great Lakes region is infamous for its mood swings. Here’s the latest:

Saturday (June 21): Conditions remain mild and comfy, but increased cloud cover means a higher chance of rain. Again, waterproof gear will keep you dry and dancing.

Sunday (June 22): There’s some risk of storms with breezy, humid air and occasional breaks of sun. Late-night thunderstorm chances could bring brief downpours—always check stage-specific weather alerts.

Essential gear includes:

While the 2024 edition featured on-site camping, the 2025 festival will not offer camping passes due to limited availability. In a heartfelt message to fans, organizers shared:

“After an amazing first year of Coconino Campout, we listened to our community and it was clear that we needed to move to a weekend that would allow more fans to join us—but with that change came an unexpected challenge: limited camping availability which is preventing us from offering camping passes for this year’s event.”

Instead of delaying the vibes, they chose to embrace the challenge and invite the community back without on-site camping. Staying true to their roots, they’ve curated a comprehensive guide to nearby campgrounds and lodging, helping everyone keep the campout spirit alive. The guide is available now on their website.

Tickets are live now, with single-day and two-day passes, plus flexible payment plans. The event remains 18+, perfect for adult fans craving both music and nature. For all details, including lodging options, head to escapetococonino.com and follow the Escape to Coconino below.
