Two Shining Stars At Project Glow

Insomniac takes over DC as the Northeast spring festival season heats up with Project Glow this weekend, April 27 + 28. For its third year, The RFK Festival Grounds provides the space for this three-stage event that runs 10 hours from 1pm to 11pm on Saturday and Sunday. It’s never too late to send it!

While massive headliners like Illenium, Rezz, Lane 8, Zedd, and Purple Disco Machine command the stages to end the night, two artists caught our attention that will get the party started well before sunset — Blossom and Calussa.

Bass house producer/DJ Blossom plays the Eternal Stage at 3:30pm on Saturday. She is no stranger to Insomniac, releasing her 2019 EP Strapped with Insomniac Music Group (IMG) imprint IN / ROTATION on her way to winning “The Best DJ in Phoenix 2019.” Now relocated to New York City and with releases on heavy-hitting labels like Deadbeats, UKF, and Night Bass, Blossom continues to make bass-forward dance music that resonates with fans worldwide.

Tech house producer/DJ duo Calussa plays the Pulse Stage at 3:45pm on Sunday. Hailing from Miami, Calussa recently debuted with IMG on the release of “Te Recorde,” their collab with Subelo NEO, and there’s more IMG music on the way. Fusing Latin and Afro Tech sounds, Calussa has released with renowned labels like Higher Ground and Defected Records and they’re ready to bring their global house music sound to Project Glow and IMG.

This weekend promises to provide another awesome Insomniac festival experience as the Northeast prepares to get its glow on. Moon Lvnding is excited to be on-site in DC to bring our Moon Fvm coverage of the 2-day event. Use the handy Project Glow links below for any last-minute festival tickets and information.

GPF Gets Greazy In “Spit In My Mouth” Music Video

If you are a fan of the hard dance scene, you know some wild acts that range from frightening to ridiculous. Masked hardcore producer GPF, which stands for Greazy Puzzy Fuckers, is more on the ridiculous end of the spectrum. He wears a mask that looks like the muscles of the face and has been known to have large phallic inflatables on stage and in the crowd when he performs. His goal is to “shock and disgust” his audience and he does just that in the music video for his latest track “Spit In My Mouth,” a collaboration with uptempo artist Dr. Donk.

The video begins with a doctor making notes about GPF in his lab. It cuts to a man who seems to be coming to the doctor for a routine procedure, but he notices something strange in his reflection and the other patients in the waiting room. Once he goes to see the doctor, that’s when things really get out of control. While the video may be absurd, it is also very well done in how it is shot and the special effects added. Check out the video created by High of Life Media to see what I mean.

As for the track itself, the beginning sounds more like trap than hard dance, until the synths and the kicks come in. It has all the characteristics of a typical uptempo track: fast BPM, high-pitched and heavily distorted kicks, kick rolls, and a primary focus on the beat. Both GPF’s and Dr. Donk’s contributions can be clearly heard.

Keep up with GPF’s antics by using the links below and be sure to check out the rest of the hard dance tracks dropping this week by following Moon Lvnding’s New Music Friday Heat playlist on Spotify.

Chris Lake: Black Book On The Pier

The legendary house producer, best known for EDM classics such as “Turn off the Lights” and “Nothing Better,” is no stranger to The Big Apple, selling out the opening two nights at The Brooklyn Mirage in 2023. Now backed by EMW Presents, this special event will further demonstrate his revered status as Black Book Records continues to sell out world-renowned venues.

The Black Book events have two separate lineups. Friday features Chris Lorenzo, Andruss, and Jojo Lorenzo, while Saturday features Green Velvet, Harry Romero, and Cole Knight. Tape B Blasts Into 2024

Known for his unique dubstep and hip-hop production, Tape B is on track for a huge 2024. For good reason, he has become one of the most in-demand artists in the bass music scene. His Cartunes mixes have become fan favorites while building a solid repertoire of classic bass remixes and original tunes.

Need proof about the current hype surrounding Tape B? In New York City for the final stop of his Old School x New School Tour on Saturday, April 20, he sold out Kings Hall at Avant Gardner so quickly that his show was rebooked at the venue’s larger Great Hall, Brooklyn’s premier EDM club destination… and he sold that one out too! True to form, no tickets remain for his Beantown show at Middle East in Cambridge, MA tonight, April 19.

On theme, Tape B’s first two merch phases are also completely gone on his website. He’s sold two collections of hoodies, hats, shirts, and pashminas with a sporty basketball jersey too! Hopefully, Phase 3 gets released sooner rather than later, especially with all the shows and festivals Tape B has booked this year.

Tape B has some exciting plans once his tour ends. To start, he’ll be performing at the world-famous EDC Las Vegas. From there, he heads to the iconic Red Rocks to play in support of Subtronics at Cyclops Rocks. Then this summer he’s slated for festival appearances at Forbidden Kingdom in Orlando, FL; Breakaway in St. Paul, MN; Deep Tropics in Nashville, TN; and North Coast in Chicago, IL. Dance Music Shines At Coachella Weekend 1

Last Friday, festivalgoers from around the world headed to Indio, California to kick off the first weekend of the 23rd Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. The three-day event exceeded expectations with its stacked lineup of highly anticipated performances from world-class artists across genres and eras.

It’s safe to say the dance music community shone especially bright this year, with stages and performances so exciting that even A-list celebrities like Taylor Swift had to witness in person.

The Do LaB, Coachella’s key stage for electronic dance music, presented sets by the scene’s most talented artists on a newly designed stage that emulated an enchanted forest, setting the mood just right. Surprise guests included an impressive list of superstars from myriad genres, including SOFI TUKKER, Kaskade + Alison Wonderland, Adriatique b2b BLOND:ISH, DJ Pee .Wee (Anderson .Paak’s DJ persona who brought rappers Freddie Gibbs and MARIO), and Billie Eilish.

EDM DJs and iconic producers enjoyed immense traction throughout the festival’s stages, with one of the most anticipated sets of the weekend taking place at Coachella’s brand-new Quasar stage. Dedicated to dance music, its LED walls hosted unforgettable performances such as the emotional return of British megastar Michael Bibi after beating CNS lymphoma cancer.

Across the festival ground, the Sahara Tent extended to its largest capacity for a legendary performance by Peggy Gou. Argentine producer Bizarrap brought Shakira on stage, and powerhouses like Eric Prydz, Hardwell, and John Summit had attendees beaming.

Several artists experienced technical difficulties, such as Grime’s nightmare scenario on the decks that left the pop star/DJ visibly distressed. As with all major events, mishaps were bound to happen, but the highlights from the weekend far outweighed the lows.

From mesmerizing stages and mind-melting production to the intertwining of artists from different genres, the Coachella Valley magic is alive and well.  We can’t wait to see what’s in store for Weekend 2. Keep an eye on Coachella’s socials below for updates on set times, surprise guests, and more!

Now Jauz is back with new singles and his Wise vs. Wicked North American Tour this spring and summer.

On March 29, Jauz released his latest single “Teardrops” and he’s got another song prepared to drop next Friday, April 26 called “Chains.” The electro-pop feel of his upcoming release marks a new foray into pop dance music and is a significant step forward for his Bite This! label.

Unveiling IDHS: From Punk Bands to Bass Music, Happy Accidents, and an Inside Joke Turned DJ Name

Canadian producer and DJ IDHS has been making waves in the EDM community with hit tracks such as Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright (IDHS Bootleg),” Mac Miller’s “Jump (IDHS Bootleg),” and Kreayshawn’s “Gucci Gucci (IDHS Bootleg).” He was featured on Tape B’s Drip Tapes Volume 3, where they collaborated on a flip version of Rick Ross and Drake’s “Aston Martin Music.” This past weekend at Coachella, Tape B also dropped a second collaboration in the works with IDHS.

IDHS will be performing at his first international festival, Sound Haven, this August 1-4 in Whitwell, Tennessee. As he prepares for his upcoming performance at Sound Haven, we had the opportunity to catch up with IDHS to talk about his musical evolution, creative process and future endeavors.

Moon Lvnding (ML): All right, so to start, can you tell me a little bit about yourself, how long you’ve been making music and what inspired you to pursue music?

IDHS: “I’ve always been involved in music in some capacity. Like, I played in punk and metal bands, which really didn’t go anywhere. I really got interested in production around 2017-2018. I was actually at a techno festival when I decided I wanted to produce bass music. It just seemed natural after turning so many hobbies into professions and absolutely hating it. I was like, all right, let’s try this… I bought this $10 plugin, and I was like, I want to make my money back. It was an eight bit plugin. So I put an ad on a freelance website, and I was like, I’ll do eight bit music. And then I got paid back for the plugin and like, okay, let’s… let’s keep doing this. So I started doing freelance audio production off websites like Fiverr.”

ML: And then how did you come up with your name? IDHS?

IDHS: “I never wanted to take DJing or music seriously because every time I turn a hobby into a profession I end up hating it. I always used to DJ under ‘TBA, anonymous, special guest’ something stupid. Every year I go to Movement festival in Detroit and throw after parties. In 2018, we ended up throwing a really big [afters] two nights in a row. People kept coming up to me and asking ‘what’s your SoundCloud’ over and over again, I would say ‘I don’t have SoundCloud.’ By the end of the weekend I was like, ok… ‘I Don’t Have SoundCloud’ is my new DJ name. That took up too much room on flyers so it got abbreviated to IDHS. Now it’s this long running inside joke that IDHS stands for anything you can think of ‘I Don’t Have Serotonin’ ‘Illinois Department of Homeland Security’  etc etc., but it does kinda mostly stand for ‘I Don’t Have Serotonin.'”

ML: How would you describe your sound, and can you elaborate on how you developed your sound?

IDHS: “I don’t like when people say I have a sound because I’m trying not to sound a certain way. And the way I’ve developed my sound is by just testing things randomly. I remember specifically watching a production stream, and I can’t remember who it was, but they were talking about producers who know what they’re doing versus producers who come across things by happy accidents. So I would definitely describe my production technique as happy accidents. Pretty much twisting knobs, resampling and trying things until my ear just hears something that I like.”

ML: So I have heard some of your collaborations, like with Tape B’s Drip Tapes Volume Three, the Rick Ross flip. What does your process look like when you’re working with these other artists as opposed to when you’re working on a track alone?

IDHS: “That’s actually changed for me over the past couple of years. Originally, I would dip into a folder of music that I wasn’t finished, and I would send that to an artist and try and collaborate on that. But the problem with that, it was always projects that were dead on my end creatively. So whatever they did with that, if they didn’t finish it and they sent it back, I would still have no idea what to do with it. So the way I change that is I either I take something I know I can finish and send it to another artist, or I make them send me something and then I treat it like I’m remixing it instead of trying to finish a track with Tape B. The first one we did was a tune he sent me that was in progress. And then the second one we did was one that I sent him.”

ML: I know you have your first international festival coming up, Sound Haven. Do you have any surprises or special elements planned for your set?

IDHS: “So as soon as I got the booking confirmed, I started working on music that I’m not gonna play until Sound Haven. So there’s going to be quite a bit of new stuff in my set.”

ML: What has been your most memorable moment of your career so far?

IDHS: “The first time I played out officially as IDHS and there was three people there. That’s the most memorable part, because I really had to sit back and think, ‘Why am I doing this? If this is going to be the outcome for a long period of time, am I going to be able to handle that?’ And so playing to an empty room with just, like, security and bartenders, it’s definitely the most memorable thing. Other than that, I’ve had some pretty cool shows in Buffalo and Halifax and in Denver recently. I played at a rave outside of Denver, like an hour into the mountains, and people were snowboarding and there was food trucks and there was a camper van with a sound system built into it. And that was really fun.”

ML: Do you have any other upcoming shows or releases that you’re working on that you want to share?

IDHS: “I have a remix coming out on deep, dark and dangerous on the 19th [of April] and probably a couple of things I can’t talk about yet. And then I’ll actually be playing at event during Movement at the end of May. And so Movement was the techno festival that I came up with IDHS, and now I get to play at a show during Movement. So that’s pretty cool to me. I’m going back to Colorado later this summer and playing at one of my favorite festivals in Ontario called Stacks on the Beach.”

ML: At Moon Lvnding, we always try to practice gratitude. What is something that you’re grateful for right now, whether in your personal life or your career?

IDHS: “The fans. It’s a huge drive to have a positive reaction to your music. Especially recently, like, flow dancers, flow artists. Like, when they’ll post videos of them dancing to my music, I’m like, this is so cool. And my family’s support, and my dog’s giving me that serotonin boost that I need all the time.”
