BLAAP Unleashes ‘BLAOWP’ on Memory Palace, Teases Upcoming Album

BLAAP, the cutting-edge duo formed by Of The Trees and Freddy Todd, recently dropped a sneak peek of their upcoming album with the new track “BLAOWP.” This release undoubtedly sets the tone for their highly anticipated November album, showcasing a refined blend of each artist’s intricate talents.

“BLAOWP” masterfully blends Of The Trees’ bass-driven textures with Freddy Todd’s signature interstellar funk. Opening with cosmic synths and intricate percussion, the track pulls listeners into an otherworld before dropping into powerful, high-energy basslines. Layered with glitchy, psychedelic effects and melodic undertones, it offers a taste of BLAAP’s innovative sound.

“The song BLAOWP is an onomatopoeia and kind of the epitome of what the band BLAAP means. It’s an explosion in space time, an event, and one of our anthems,” said Freddy Todd. “Contrary to most of the other tracks we’ve worked on, where we’re usually in the studio together and using Tyler’s computer with Ableton as the main workstation, BLAOWP saw life beginning on my (Freddy’s) PC on FL Studio in Michigan – consisting of that first massive drop and hectic vocal “scratching.” I sent it to Tyler as a potential BLAAP tune idea with him responding “yes. YES. I would love to work on this” and me replying “Swag. Fantastic. Stems incoming”. After some tinkering and a trip back out to Colorado, we fleshed out the second drop in person but with OTT at the helm – as Tyler was dialing in his signature pockets I paced back and forth knowing BLAOWP was going to be volcanic af. Both drops go so crazy and each one is representative of our differences in being two separate humans with individual styles yet come together in a nice cohesively unique package of a song in a new blaapedelic way. It’s been so fun to play live and I’m stoked to finally release this one proper.”

Denver-based producer Of The Trees crafts rich soundscapes, blending dubstep and hip-hop, with an emphasis on 808 percussion. At the same time, Detroit’s Freddy Todd brings his signature glitch-infused, high-energy performances to the electronic scene. Together, they form BLAAP and release through Memory Palace, Of The Trees’ label. Memory Palace is known for its dedication to innovative, boundary-pushing music across bass and electronic music.

Escape Halloween 2024 Review

Last weekend, the largest Halloween festival in the world took place at the NOS Center in San Bernardino, California. With a brand new layout, a new stage, and an epic lineup, this year’s Escape Halloween did not disappoint.

Insomniac Event’s production, environment, and lineup for Escape Halloween never disappoint. The new layout included a larger Crazy Town between The Grimm, Feeding Grounds, and Wicked Woods. This helped clear up a lot of the congestion issues from past festivals. Crazy Town also featured The Butcher, which was a haunted house that included dead bodies hanging in body bags, people dressed as zombies, and the DJ stage.

It also had Poison Ivy, which was a 3D spray-painted house fitted with a DJ and a mad scientist who created test tube shots. The centerpiece of Crazy Town was the iconic flaming cathedral with the ringmaster and various carnival shows on stage. In front of Crazy Town was the new CASA BACARDI stage, which had artists like Omnon and Joshwa playing throughout the weekend.

The Psycho Circus remained in its normal position by the front of the venue. It included a poker table where people bet with kandi, performing acrobats, palm readers, and stage magicians throughout the night. Voodoo Ville was a new area added to this year’s Escape, located outside Feeding Grounds and Wicked Woods. Voodoo Ville had one of the coolest layouts of the weekend.

When you walked in there was a giant Day of the Dead skull hanging from the ceiling with a jungle theme. There was a section with a broken shed that had a dancer and someone playing a piano which was perfect for taking those perfect pictures. The DJ platform at the front of the stage pumped music and also had a bar. If you did not get a chance to at least walk through this stage, definitely check it out next year.

The festival had five main stages: The Grimm, Sewer District, Feeding Grounds, The Cauldron, and Wicked Woods. I also need to shout out the Beatbox Art Car, located outside Sewer District. Throughout the weekend, the Beatbox Art Car was going off. No matter who was playing at the main stages, the Beatbox Art Car had a packed crowd of people playing heavy bass all weekend. I found myself there headbanging, the vibes were electric.

The Grimm was larger, with the signature Grim Reaper behind the artists moving throughout the night. The lasers were mesmerizing and gave the stacked lineup the production it deserved. The Grimm hosted names across genres like Illenium, Deadmau5, Maddix, and Snakehips, giving everyone a chance to enjoy the main stage.

Sewer District was located in the speedway and housed the bassheads for the weekend. Sewer District felt like Wastelands as it was surrounded by panels and shipping containers. The pyrotechnics and fireworks here did not disappoint. Sewer District was blessed by Wooli, Level Up, Ludacris, and Adventure Club across the weekend.

Feeding Grounds was the first stage upon entering the festival, showcasing its classic spiderweb theme. Day 1 was hosted by Basscon and had artists like Da Tweekaz and Lady Faith. Day 2 was hosted by Night Trip x Insomniac Records with names like Odd Mob and Cloonee.

Wicked Woods was expanded this year, and rightfully so with names like Fatboy Slim, Pawsa, Nina Kraviz and Patrick Mason playing throughout the weekend. This dark stage was surrounded by shipping containers and was perfect for techno fans to dance all weekend.

The newest stage, The Cauldron, was hosted by Boiler Room and definitely brought the vibes. Attendees behind the DJ booth were going crazy and the crowd was going even crazier. Names like Justin Jay and Lil Texas brought the house down on the first year of Boiler Room x Escape Halloween.

Escape Halloween is a festival that all ravers look forward to every year. 2024 brought a new layout and new stages, including a Boiler Room stage and a massive lineup that exceeded expectations. From Crazy Town to the OMG production at every stage, it had all of us counting down to 2025. If you’re like me and you’re all ready to run it back, presale tickets are already available. Hopefully, we will see you next year on October 31 and November 1 for Escape Halloween 2025.

Waxtroda World Premier Extended Club Set

While everyone looks forward to spooky season and Halloweekend, I’m still thinking about the world club premier of Waxtroda. The collaborative project from Wax Motif and Matroda debuted at EDC Orlando last year. Then a few weeks ago on October 11, they sold out one of America’s landmark nightclub venues, The Brooklyn Mirage, with a first-ever extended 4+ hour club set.

The set captivated the crowd and kept us moving all night long. In fact, they blew past the four-hour mark and kept the club open past the 4am curfew because the crowd couldn’t get enough. The two house producers teased a ton of new IDs and the cream of the crop will likely feature on their forthcoming Waxtroda EP. Although they officially started their Waxtroda project last year, Wax Motif and Matroda have previously released two collaborative songs.

In 2019, they dropped their first collab, “Lose Control,” on Wax’s Divided Souls label. Then in 2022, they renewed their partnership to release “La Candela Viva” on HARD Recs. Lucky for us, from what I heard at the show, they have a handful of heaters getting their finishing touches before they go on the new EP. Now, the only question is how long we will have to wait until they start releasing songs under the new Waxtroda project. Hopefully, they don’t make us wait too much longer before they drop some new tunes.

For those looking for the next chance to dance to the sexy beats of Waxtroda, they are scheduled for another festival set at the upcoming Seismic Dance Event in Austin, TX on the weekend of November 15 – 17. To keep up with all the latest news and announcements about the Waxtroda project, be sure to follow their new IG account and check in on their individual social media channels too.

Juush Unleashes New Tune “Feelin’ Naughty”

Back with another club destroyer, Juush dropped “Feelin’ Naughty” today. The vocal, “I’m feelin’ naughty, put your body on my body, and let’s dance,” immediately sets the tone of the track. It’s another single off Juush’s label Vibes On 10. Check it out below.

This latest track fully displays Juush’s playful style and heavy basslines. It is undeniably catchy and set to tear up any dancefloor. Stay updated with everything related to Juush through his social media and the links below.

Qlank is back and just as hot as ever with a new EP on In Rotation. ‘Therapy’ takes you to the darkest corners of the club and gets you grooving with some of the nastiest sounds in bass house. The EP features four tracks, including the title track released a month prior. Each song off the EP is primed to tear up any club willing and ready.

Blanke Puts On The Show Of A Lifetime At Sunbar

Blanke took over the valley of the sun this past Saturday during his Earth To The Stars: Emergence Tour playing two sets including one as his ÆON:MODE project earlier in the night. To open the show, CHASIN‘ threw some nasty drops that proved he is an up-and-coming force to be reckoned with. The energy of the crowd was infectious; it only got more hype (and hot) as the night went on and not one person let up on the gas.

The soaring Drum & Bass project ÆON:MODE followed CHASIN’ for a captivating 45-minute set. While I do love a good heavy bass drop, I couldn’t help but want an encore for more DnB! Blanke brings such genuine energy to his music and performance and it shows through his fans’ love and excitement. The visuals and remixes captured my attention and I came to understand why so many fans arrive early to catch this set!

One of my favorite aspects of this show was the visuals—everyone absolutely showed up in that department. Following the Drum & Bass craziness, EDDIE set the final tone for the night, not leaving any room for downtime. Playing a personal favorite with Quackson, “Caffeine Induced Psychosis,” he also teased a new upcoming single with the OG, Zomboy.

The man of the hour, Blanke closed the night out and showed why he is one of the top names in music. With his diverse setlist, gnarly remixes, and mesmerizing visuals, I can easily say he is one of the top artists I have seen thus far. You can tell that Blanke puts his whole heart and soul into his performance by the infectious energy he brings. Catch a glimpse below:

Brownies & Lemonade Conquer The K Bridge

It’s been nearly a month since Brownies & Lemonade brought the heat to Brooklyn, but I still can’t get that epic show off my mind. The Southern California event brand started the fall EDM season by taking over one of New York City’s most unique new venues, Under the K Bridge Park. Located directly underneath the Kosciuszko Bridge, Brownies & Lemonade converted the covered outdoor space into the place to be on Friday, September 27.

Of course, setting up the space for an event is only part of the challenge; the other is enlisting a strong lineup. B&L held nothing back when curating the diverse bass lineup for this event, including an epic b2b set featuring special guests Camo & Krooked, Mefjus, and Daxta MC. During the daylight hours, Jawns, Frosttop, and Wavedash got the party started. Then to close the night out after the b2b, Madeon played a deliciously bass-heavy set followed by a special set from the birthday girl, Alison Wonderland.

One of the more memorable moments of the night happened as Alison Wonderland started her set. Her tour manager punked her by cutting the volume to her mixer while the LED screen behind her said that the audio was cut so the crowd could sing her “Happy Birthday.” After a confused few seconds, Alison caught on to the prank, turned to see the message behind her, and then got serenaded by the raucous Brooklyn crowd.

As a native New Yorker, I love to see artists embrace our culture in their sets and Alison Wonderland went there. She came out in a Rocawear S. Carter jersey to pay homage to Jay-Z and made sure to drop her Notorious B.IG. remix in her set, showing love to Brooklyn’s two most famous hip-hop artists. Even B&L got in the spirit of the big city by adopting its sustainability efforts to eliminate single-use plastics from events. Instead of vendors serving drinks in disposable cups, they used reusable cups and had cup collection bins scattered around the park. B&L even invited some local NYC food trucks to pull up and offer tasty treats for hungry patrons.

All things considered, Brownies & Lemonade curated an outstanding event here in Brooklyn and we’re already looking forward to their return to NYC. B&L showcased a diverse range of international bass artists and the crowd enjoyed the show by moving and dancing all night. While they might be a California-based event brand, Moon Lvnding would sure love to see Brownies and Lemonade come back to New York as soon as they can. Gold Rush 2024 – A Desert Odyssey

We ventured into the heart of the Arizona desert, descending upon the hallowed grounds of the Phoenix Raceway for the 2024 Gold Rush Festival. This annual pilgrimage promised a journey into the realm of electronic dance music, and it delivered.

The festival grounds were transformed into a futuristic oasis, where electronic beats reigned supreme. With 5 impressive stages, mind-bending visuals, and earth-shattering sound systems this year’s setup was an immersive experience. Each stage had its own unique design (my favorite was the main stage dice design; something I had never seen before), and the different areas of each stage provided attendees the opportunity to change their surroundings multiple times and keep things fresh. The crowd brought the energy like usual. All the cowgirls and cowboys could be heard for miles. Despite the immense scale of the festival, the organizers ensured a smooth experience with efficient crowd control and ample amenities.

The lineup was an assembly of EDM’s brightest stars, including headliners Alesso, The Chainsmokers, Slander, Ganja White Night and more! With such a vast amount of talent across the venue, you could explore and stumble upon a new set without missing a beat.

Gold Rush 2024 was a testament to the power of electronic music to bring people together. The unforgettable performances, the stunning visuals, and the electric atmosphere made for a truly unforgettable experience. As we emerge from the desert haze, we’re already counting down the days until the next Gold Rush.

A Look At Lost Lands 2024

Lost Lands, often hailed as the Disneyland of dubstep in the bass community, lived up to its reputation this year with a touch of magic! The festival saw noticeable upgrades, from enhanced campsites to the introduction of a brand-new 360-degree stage, leaving bass heads in awe.

Highlights:

The Crater Stage – As 360-degree stages and Boiler Room-style setups have grown in popularity, it was only a matter of time before Lost Lands joined the trend. When the Crater stage was announced, there was initial skepticism about how it would handle large crowds. However, those doubts quickly vanished after its first live appearance this year. With multiple entrances and a rotating DJ booth in the center, every attendee enjoyed an intimate, front-row experience, no matter where they stood.

The real magic came at night. As the lasers shot through the sky, it felt like a galactic battle straight out of Star Wars. Each drop reverberated through the crowd, eliciting gasps and cheers as the crowd gazed up in awe.

The Tunnel – With 40,000 people transitioning between the campsite and the festival grounds, moving the masses is no small feat. The addition of the tunnel was a game changer, providing a smooth, stress-free transition into the festival. No more waiting for traffic or cramming together on a scaffold overpass—the addition of this vibrant tunnel will be appreciated in Legend Valley for years to come.

The Music – Lost Lands wouldn’t be complete without four days of face-melting, head-banging bass. From the moment the gates opened at the main stage until the sunrise at the silent disco, the energy never wavered. Early sets by UsayBflow, Levity, Sanzu, VKTM, and Emorfik were relentless, pushing the sound systems to their limits and putting attendee earplugs to the test!

Legendary back-to-backs lit up the weekend, from a house set by Wooli, Svdden Death, and Subtronics to a filthy riddim showdown with Hamro, Sqishi, and BLVNKSPVCE. Smoakland and Sippy’s wompy hour and a day-four closing set by the undisputed kings Wooli and Excision wrapped up a weekend of pure bass heaven.

Bummers:

THE DUST– A little bit of dirt and dust is unavoidable at most music festivals, but this year’s conditions were truly brutal. Ohio’s summer drought meant thick clouds of dirt followed festival-goers everywhere, turning mosh pits into mini sandstorms. Even with masks or pashminas, the dust found its way into every breath.

No Pyro – A last-minute fire ban by local authorities put a damper on one of the festival’s signature elements—pyrotechnics. No gas stoves, lighters, or fireworks were allowed, leaving stages without their usual bursts of flames. However, the production team made up for it with extra lasers, CO2 cannons, and nightly drone shows, keeping the energy alive.

Final Thoughts:

Excision and his team deserve major credit for pulling off a safe and exhilarating Lost Lands despite the challenges. From the prehistoric vibe to the community energy, Lost Lands 2024 was both gnarly and breathtaking, and fans are already counting down the days until 2025!
