Elements Music And Arts Festival In Review

After a fantastic four days in the Poconos, it is clear that Elements Music and Arts Festival is still the premier camping festival in the Northeast United States. The event organizers put time and effort into crafting thoughtful details throughout the festival grounds to create experiences and memories that will last a lifetime.

First and foremost, the event site was decorated well and logically organized. Bright neon colors were everpresent at all five stages inside the festival grounds. Upon entering the festival, the sounds of the Water Stage greeted the crowd, and festivalgoers could easily access concessions and one of the many hydration stations. The Fire Stage was shaped like a triangle and adorned with on-theme pyrotechnics. The Earth Stage had light projections overlaying the perimeter of the stage, making the surrounding art look more trippy at night. Finally, the Air Stage and the Wub Hub were both set back in the woods, giving them an enchanting forest feel.

The musical artists booked for Elements were deep and diverse, offering a variety of EDM genres for people to enjoy. To me, the standout sets from the weekend included Tinlicker at the Air Stage, LP Giobbi at the Water Stage, Skrillex at the Fire Stage, and Level Up at the Earth Stage. Another highlight of the weekend was LSDREAM’s much anticipated Lightcode set Sunday morning, incorporating meditation and breathwork into the calming musical backdrop. Check out MoonLvnding’s Instagram to see daily recap posts with videos from assorted artists.

In addition to the music, there were many other performers that heightened the experiences at each stage. Sticking to the theme of the elements, both the Fire and Air Stages featured fire spinners moving to the music. During the midday heat, the Water Stage had dancers spraying cooling water into the crowds. Over at the Earth Stage, DAM Circus brought a slew of talented aerialists to perform acrobatics near the back of the stage, and on Saturday there were even skydivers raining from the clouds at dusk during Daily Bread’s set. After dark, there were illuminated art installations along the trail through the woods, adding to the ambiance of Elements.

Complementing the fabulous music was an action-packed schedule of seminars and sessions aimed at helping festivalgoers better themselves and learn new skills. To name just a few, there were presentations on breathwork, self-massage, tantric meditation, jewelry making, and plant medicines. There was a plethora of physical activities available too, including yin, acro, and partner yoga, shuffle class, and hip-hop twerk fitness. If only there was more time to be able to attend all the awesome presenters!

One area where Elements truly excelled from other camping fests was the after-party options. By working directly with group camping through its unique Vibe Village setup, the team at Elements allowed groups to set up after-party stages throughout the group camping area. These group-run stages were great for enjoying the afters more intimately with other festivalgoers and hearing music from both underground artists like DiCEMaN and headliners like John Summit.

For those interested in the VIP experience, it was well worth it! Both the Fire and Earth Stages had designated VIP areas off on the sides with a good view of the stage. Even more impressive were the freebies and premium services available in the Vinyl Wellness tented area at Earth Stage. In addition to complimentary coffee, tea, snacks, and a nightly meal served around 7 p.m., there were also wellness offerings including vitamin shots, IV therapy, massages, light therapy, compression therapy, and an oxygen bar.

The fact that this festival is powered by green energy from the adjacent solar power station and gets fresh organic produce from one of the Northeast’s largest organic farms means that the team at Elements puts a high priority on sustainability efforts to protect the environment. It is a very manageable drive from the major airports in New York City and Philadelphia, and the logistics around the event site at the Poconos Raceway in Long Pond, PA were top quality.

Good news for those looking to attend Elements in 2024, presale passes are now available for Elements Music and Arts Festival 2024 at their lowest possible prices. Everything is up for purchase from festival passes, Vibe Village group camping, and premium camping options to Elements hotels, RV passes, and early arrival add-ons. Next year’s festival will take place August 9 – August 12, 2024, at the same wonderful location in the Poconos at Long Pond, PA.

Moon Lvnding had an incredible experience at its first Elements Music and Arts Festival, and we would enthusiastically recommend this fest to anyone looking to try something new during the Summer festival season. HARD Summer Recap: A Warm Welcome Back to LA

HARD Summer Music Festival has been a SoCal staple for over a decade. After countless iterations, lineups, and venues, it returned home to Los Angeles last weekend. The five stages spread through Exposition Park, hosting a powerhouse lineup that any fan of electronic music would hate to miss. We explored every inch of the festival and spoke to artists and attendees alike; here’s what went down on this unforgettable weekend!

Day 1:

Saturday at 2:00 PM marked the official start to HARD Summer. Unlike many other festivals, travel to the venue was a breeze. A quick ride on the LA Metro offered a straight shot to Expo Park, and even gave attendees a chance to meet and interact along the way! Entry to the festival was quick and easy, despite Insomniac‘s heightened security; everyone entered stress-free and feeling safe. Upon entry, attendees were left directly in front of the HARD Stage for an electric performance by CHYL. (Stay tuned for our post-set interview with the speed house trailblazer.) Her high-octane set was the perfect way to get everyone excited for the party! A quick glance around the venue showed no shortage of food options, plenty of water stations, and lots of extra activities to dive into.

The only disappointment this weekend was that we could not see every single artist, as we heard glowing reviews of every set throughout the weekend. The ones we did catch, however, were nothing short of incredible! Jon Casey and Chee combined to form It Hz, bringing some of the dirtiest bass tracks imaginable. Luude spun his thrilling drum and bass, making sure he got the crowd interacting with him and having a blast. ISOxo was one of our absolute favorite sets of the weekend. His energy on stage, paired with a vigor that only trap music can bring, showed exactly why he’s one of the hottest artists in dance music right now. SAYMYNITTI played so many genres, every drop was a surprise; the duo certainly left with some new fans. To close the day, DIESEL brought his world-renowned stage presence to blow the crowd away.

We spoke to several attendees throughout the day as well, getting their thoughts on the festival as a whole. Becca and Brandon from Orange County loved the stage setups the most this year. As it was their second HARD Summer, they thought Insomniac really stepped up the production. They both thought Kaivon had one of his best sets and headed home ready to get back for the second day.

Rob, an LA local, gave Odd Mob a glowing review. While telling us about his favorite shows, he kept returning to the vibe Odd Mob set for the rest of the day. Another Angeleno named Eddie gave his seal of approval to ISOxo. He also made note of the major temperature difference in DTLA versus the previous HARD Summer venues. He felt this location was much cooler than years past and never felt like he was getting overheated.

Our final new friend of the night was Alyssa from the Bay Area. She loved all the sets she saw and couldn’t choose a favorite. She did say that she loved the crowd this year; her favorite part of festivals is making friends, and she made plenty of new ones! After seeing some amazing performances and getting to chat with these wonderful people, we were ready to be back ASAP for the second day.

Day 2:

Jake West for HARD Summer

We were anxious to get back to the festivities as soon as we opened our eyes. With another smooth commute and entry, our day got off to a great start! After a quick hydration fill, it was time for Sippy in the LA Coliseum at 3:00 PM. Known for her hard-hitting dubstep, she certainly did not hold back; she did bring some extra drum and bass though! Getting a crowd dancing in the August sun is no easy task, but Sippy made it happen. Hamdi followed up with an incredible fire that showed why he has been garnering so much love. Somehow able to blend filthy basslines with insane grooves, Hamdi had one of the most lively crowds of the weekend. Speaking of crowds, Disco Lines brought in one of the biggest of the festival, maybe second only to our final artist of the weekend. His blend of fan-favorite songs and edits was nothing short of electric! Wuki also brought a crate of classic mashups and remixes to get the dance floor moving from start to finish. Our final artist of the night, of course, was Skrillex x Four Tet. The global sensation brought a mass influx to the stage more than an hour before their set began. They controlled the crowd flawlessly from start to finish, playing a blend of their hit songs with numerous crowd-pleasers. The highlight of the weekend was when they Facetimed Fred again.. on the big screen, getting the legendary trio back together.

Skyler Greene for HARD Summer

HARD Summer was on a whole new level this year. While it has been a huge success in the past, the 2023 iteration will be the benchmark moving forward. From delicious food to incredible art installations, the music wasn’t the only thing making the weekend a massive success. When you weren’t enjoying all the extras, you were certainly getting the best shows at any stage! The biggest question mark for most coming into the weekend was about the change of venue; once they entered, there was no more question. Welcome home HARD Summer.

Deadbeats New York Review With ROSSY

Last Friday, July 28, 2023, Zeds Dead and the Deadbeats team took over The Brooklyn Mirage for a massive two-room sellout event with over 10 artists on the lineup. In addition to the Friday night show, Deadbeats also rented out a separate space on Saturday — Fine & Raw Chocolate Factory, just a few blocks from Friday’s venue. The chocolate factory was home to two unique DeadBeats events: a pop-up showcasing some of Hooks’ works of art during the day, and an Altered States show later that night.

Friday’s Deadbeats New York show topped last year’s version with more artists and better visuals than ever before. The second stage — Kings Hall — offered an indoor venue with cool AC blasting and hot drum and bass booming. Over on the main stage, some of bass music’s best young artists graced the decks to play at America’s premier club venue.

Moon Lvnding was able to catch up with ROSSY, who we featured last month, to ask a few questions about how the Los Angeles-based artist enjoyed her Brooklyn Mirage debut. “The BK Mirage is a dream venue for so many artists, including myself and I feel so honored I got to be there and I’m deeply thankful,” she shared. “It was such a beautiful experience and I feel so lucky that I got to be someone who plays that venue. Very thankful to Deadbeats for having me be a part of that show! Really made a huge dream come true.”

One of the central features that define the Brooklyn Mirage experience is the massive 200-foot 4K high-definition LED wall behind the DJ decks. It is a treat to see the artists’ visuals come to life and complement the music on the big screen, so we asked ROSSY to give us the scoop on her designs. “All the rainbow and thermal screen graphics are of me! I worked on those with my talented friends Miguel and Glen and it turned out so sick. It was wild to see them blown up on a screen of that size.” Other graphics for her set included the artist’s name in a variety of creative fonts and images from her most recent EP and Tour, Heavens Door.

Although we did not get the chance to see the Altered States show Saturday night, Moon Lvnding was on hand to check out the Deadbeats art show during the day. Check back later this week for a photo gallery dedicated to the cool pieces Hooks showed off in New York City. Indie-Electronic Duo SUNDRESS Releases Single “Before We Knew”

It’s never too late for a new feel-good anthem, and Arizona-based duo SUNDRESS has you covered with the release of their second single this summer, “Before We Knew.”

Known for their high-energy performances and soulful sound, it is no surprise that SUNDRESS quickly took the Pacific Northwest by storm. The dynamic duo boasts an impressive list of sold-out shows, performing alongside heavy hitters like JAUZ and TROYBOI, and making a memorable appearance on the 2022 Moonlight Masquerade Festival lineup. SUNDRESS continues to make its mark with captivating stage presence and talent to match.

“Before We Knew” is a euphoric and bouncy track that encapsulates both the energy of uptempo electronic and the soul of folk house. The record exhibits unique echoing vocal bridges and oscillating beats that will tickle your brain in the right way. Perhaps most triumphant are the track’s energetic builds and funky, sub-bass-driven drops. If you enjoy listening to artists like Bunt., Kasbo, D.O.D., and Chet Porter, SUNDRESS would be the perfect addition to your music collection.

Alongside the record, the duo released a beautifully crafted music video performance by Drew Dody, SUNDRESS’ close friend and videographer counterpart. Electric Forest: A Closer Look At Access Accommodations

Inclusion is an important value in the music community that is emphasized by music events worldwide. Accessibility and accommodations at festivals are at the heart of this by focusing on creating the best possible experience for all attendees. Today we will take a deep dive into how the beloved Electric Forest music festival addresses the needs of all its visitors.

For those who do not know, these accommodations are mandated by the American Disability Act or ADA. The ADA requires events and public spaces to have access options that allow a person with disabilities to use and enjoy the space in a way that someone without disabilities would. At concerts and festivals these accommodations are handled by an ADA team, and what is offered varies from show to show.

Naturally, Electric Forest had such a team and various access accommodations in 2023. This year, the options started out rough. The website stated that a dedicated campground entrance was to be provided. Upon arrival at 12:03 am Thursday morning we discovered that this was not the case. There were no signs directing to an access line and when approached, multiple staff members had no idea what we were asking for. Once we made it to the security checkpoint, a manager asked why we did not utilize the access line and we explained. The manager then pointed to the distant end of the checkpoints where the access checkpoint was. Not only was it at the far end without signage but it was also blocked from view by trailers and trees.

Once we made it past the security checkpoint, things did not get better. None of the ground crew knew either what Camp Access (ADA camping) was, or if they did, could not direct us to it. I only had a faint idea of how to get there because this was my second time attending the festival. Eventually, we were directed to a spot to park and wait for another manager, who then proceeded to tell us that ADA was closed so no one would direct us to the correct location and just pointed in the general direction.

After driving through multiple established camping areas, we finally found it—in chaos. Unlike every other campground with staff and fire marshalls directing people, there were no staff in the area. The campground was disorganized and more importantly, there were no staff checking to make sure people in the area had handicap placards or were the +1 allowed vehicle. We were lucky to find a spot along the fence line of the venue that was most definitely not supposed to be a camping area, but we set up camp next to other groups. In the morning our neighbors told us that although early arrival started Tuesday afternoon, not a single staff or security member was looking over Camp Access. We then discovered that the only accessible shower was not located inside Camp Access, but about a ⅓ mile from the edge of the campground, making them inaccessible to many individuals.

The Camp Access information desk finally opened at 12pm Thursday, roughly 48 hours after the first guest arrived at the campsite.

While the negatives were difficult to cope with, there were some positives. The first was the registration. Each ADA guest was assigned a number. This allowed people to replace their ADA wristbands if they lost them, but did not allow people to abuse the system and get multiple bands for their friends. This was effective because all ADA wristbands had to be scanned in and out of the venue like a regular wristband.

The ADA wristband allowed wearers and one guest to use the ADA line at the front entrance as well as the side entrances. These side entrances offered access to the best accommodation that Electric Forest had to offer, chauffeured golf carts to multiple points within the festival grounds. These carts were an absolute godsend. As a person with a mobility disability, the carts allowed me to cut at least half of my walking out of the equation for the entirety of the festival, allowing me to focus on the music and my friends instead of pain and discomfort. For the most part, security personnel at these side gates were informed that ADA guests would be using them to gain access to the golf carts. However, on Friday night the security manager was only allowing people in wheelchairs to use the golf carts, a call he had no authority to make. Thankfully we got into a golf cart after walking to a second side entrance and the driver brought the issue to his manager’s attention. I was told the next morning that the security personnel was re-briefed about who could and could not utilize the golf carts.

Another accommodation that many may be familiar with is the elevated seating and viewing platforms. These platforms allow people who may have a lower viewing angle to see the stage and enjoy the show, rather than be blocked by people in front of them. These stages also provide seating so that people, like myself, can take a moment to rest in a chair. These platforms also have the added benefit of some protection from the crowd to avoid being knocked over or pushed down.

Overall, I would give the accommodations of Electric Forest a C+. The ADA team was helpful and for the most part, things went well once they started working, however, the fact that Camp Access was disorganized and understaffed during the arrival period and the added complication that the only accessible shower was located a long way from Camp Access brings an otherwise great experience down a few notches.

ALRT Succeeds At Showcasing His ‘Multiplicity’

DJ/producer ALRT released his second album Multiplicity last Friday, July 14 on NRG Records and it is packed with 15 tracks that showcase his diverse production styles. The thoughtful ordering of the tracks is a testament to ALRT’s growth and evolution as an EDM producer, providing a breath of fresh air in an industry that can sound a bit stale.

The album starts with a cinematic intro that sets the mood for the album, before two high-energy bass house tracks, “Familia” and “New Hope” which are chock full of party energy. The next track, “City,” dips into tech house and captures the feeling of big-city nightlife.

ALRT taps into his Israeli-born roots on “Run It Up,” which features brass horns and gives off the exotic feel of the Middle East. Then the next two tracks, “One Time” and “Make You Move” feel like they are ready to be played out at the club to get the crowd moving. The tech house vibes are alive and well on these two.

“Through The Fire” and “Never” are emblematic of ALRT’s multiplicity when it comes to the evolution of his music production, as he leans into UK garage influences and soulful vocals. “Too Hot” might be the pinnacle of the album, brimming with bass house beats and slick pace changes to keep listeners on their toes, while the next track “Air Drums” keeps the high energy going.

Track 13 titled “Mother” is, in fact, a tribute to his family, using voice samples of his wife and child as he creates a sweet-sounding tune in his new role as a husband and father. ALRT rounds out the album with the experimental sounds of “High Status” and the trance-inspired “1985” which is the perfect way to end the sonic exploration of Multiplicity with a soothing tune.

Listening to the album all the way through from front to back, one gets a good sense of the time and attention ALRT gave to crafting an album that explores the endless possibilities of EDM. He’s got some great high-energy, dancefloor-ready tunes and weaves them seamlessly into more ethereal and heartfelt tracks at the end of the album.
