Whethan Wraps Impressive 2nd Life Of A Wallflower Tour

Six years after his debut Wallflower album, Whethan has lit up the EDM world again with Life of a Wallflower, Vol. 2 which came out on July 12 via Good Luck Have Fun. Now he sets his sights on Brooklyn and DC for the final two stops on his epic Life of a Wallflower Vol. 2 Tour this weekend. Just check out the scenes from Whethan’s last show in Los Angeles!

Whethan’s new album reminds us of his genre-blending talent and futuristic sound. We covered his prior single “DO YOU REMEMBER” and his viral hit “MONEY ON THE DASH” with Elley Duhé has been blasting on our summer speakers. Notably his only lowercase song, “sick of myself,” offers a catchy pop tune with the sultry vocals of Nessa Barrett.

The first track, “STEALTH BOMBER,” features the distinctive gritty vocals from popular UK MC Flowdan and starts the album with a fresh, exotic sound. My favorite track is hiding near the end, “CRAZY4U.” With its snappy vocals from MKLA and Whethan’s energetic backbeat, I can’t wait to catch this one on the Elsewhere dance floor.

A lot changed since I caught Whethan on his last Wallflowers tour at Brooklyn Steel on a Wednesday in September 2018, when a not-so-wallflowery MadeinTKO provided direct support for the budding teenage talent. On the other hand, Chet Porter provided support at some of Whethan’s 2018 tour stops, and now in 2024, Porter returns to the Life of a Wallflower Vol. 2 Tour with a “crazy fun party DJ set.”

Another Good Luck Have Fun artist, Super Computer, rounds out the support for Whethan’s last two stops, Friday, July 26 at Elsewhere in Brooklyn and Saturday, July 27 at Culture in Washington DC. For all the latest from Whethan about any new show dates and fresh remixes from artists like Armin Van Buuren, follow along on his social media.

Reaper & Stace Cadets Drop DnB’s Newest Track “Seconds”

Bassrush Records‘ talented drum and bass DJs REAPER and Stace Cadets teamed up on their newest track “Seconds.” Reaper’s latest release is an explosive showcase of emotive lyrics set against a powerful backdrop of deep heavy bass, sub-bass, and synthesizer soundscapes. Fireworks ignite as this dynamic duo drops a DnB bombshell to shake up the summer festival scene with their powerful collaboration.

“Seconds” is a compelling addition to the Challenger saga, portraying Reaper’s journey through adversity. Despite the melancholic lyrics, the song resonates powerfully within the DnB scene, leaving a lasting impact on listeners. Reaper once profoundly stated, “eventually, everyone dances with the Reaper,” and “Seconds” masterfully embodies this sentiment in a truly captivating manner.

One of Reaper’s top tracks features Moon Lvnding and Arizona favorite Bella Renee, and his library is stacked with bone-crunching bass from a variety of sub-genres. “Seconds” is a Top 5 pick in our weekly New Music Friday Mix and to keep up with REAPER for all the latest, use the social links below.

Aluna’s Noir Fever Spreads As The Metro Stays Bouncing

Noir Fever, the new record label from renowned singer, producer, and dance music icon Aluna, has turned up the heat with a few notable releases over the last few weeks. On June 14, the brother-sister duo Pitch Black from Long Beach, CA, debuted its first-ever song, “Metro,” on the UK label. A week prior, Harlem-based DJ/producer AQUTIE dropped a 2-track EP, Coolest in the City, showcasing her star potential in the NYC house scene.

Aluna founded Noir Fever to foster the growth of emerging talent by focusing on Black women and queer artist communities. With Pitch Black’s viral TikTok presence and engaging musical production, “Metro” is just the start of something big. “We aren’t just about jumping on the train that’s already speeding ahead,” Aluna said on discovering Pitch Black via Instagram. “We want to invest in artists we believe in, even if it’s their first official release. ‘Metro’ is undeniably hard, and I’m so glad it’s releasing on Noir Fever.”

AQUTIE is another Noir Fever artist poised to make waves, hailing from the dance music mecca of New York City. She combines her African and Caribbean roots to create an innovative new sound for sexy house music, including powerful vocals by Paulina Singer. “It’s really an ode to being an African New Yorker,” AQUTIE remarked on the release. “The EP is inspired by many instruments you’d hear from my African background.”

While performing on some of the world’s finest club stages from Bali to NYC, AQUTIE also continues running her own Brooklyn-based event series, Heat House. “Her production, just like her sets, are hard, sexy, tasteful, and fresh all at the same time,” Aluna shared. “She has an incredibly broad sensibility and she blends her influences seamlessly. I’m so glad the world gets to hear these tracks…”

This is just the start of bigger things from Noir Fever, as it makes good on Aluna’s famous letter calling out the dance music industry for more inclusion of Black artists. From what we can hear, Noir Fever is already making a difference while partnering with events company Empire to help with bookings. Sullivan King Fuses Rock With DnB In “The Beginning”

Known for his guitar-rock sound and iconic screamo vocals, Sullivan King has captivated audiences worldwide with his genre-blending music and dynamic performances. As drum and bass (DnB) rapidly gains more attention in the electronic scene, King has taken notice. Today’s new release, “The Beginning,” fuses rock and heavy metal with DnB. Expect this latest release to push boundaries and set new trends in the genre.

The track begins with a slow build, featuring King’s emotional lyrics that seamlessly transition into his signature screamo vocals accompanied by electrifying guitar riffs and powerful drums. The intensity peaks with a riveting drum solo that leads into the much-anticipated DnB drop. This single paves the way for a unique sub-genre and offers a glimpse into King’s upcoming project.

“‘The Beginning’ is a song about remembering that things will get better even when the world feels cold and dark,” said Sullivan King. “It is filled with so much energy and life, while stylistically remaining true to what I love to write, record, and produce.”

Subtronics Releases “Sploinky Dub”

About a month ago, on May 4, 2024, Tiktok creator @grechofficial made a quick post in his car. He remarked about the person next to him “Listening to some sploinky ass music and was making him feel weird.” Who would’ve thought the sample would lead to an EDM single?

To no surprise, bassheads saw the Tiktok and sent it to their favorite producers. Inevitably, the modern master of deep-cut meme samples and one of the sploinkiest of them all, Subtronics got a hold of the video. Subtronics might have been the ideal bass artist to create a dubstep track from this viral video. He’s got a knack for giving the people what they want!

Subtronics has been staying busy this spring, playing mainstage at EDC Las Vegas, throwing the 4th annual Cyclops Rocks with two sold-out shows at Red Rocks Amphitheater, and headlining Forbidden Kingdom. Amazingly, he has made the time to produce and release “Sploinky Dub” featuring Grech. Subtronics and Grech understood the assignment and sploinky is the latest term to enter the EDM lexicon. Whatever weird womps and wubs you think of when describing bass music is precisely what it means to listen to sploinky music.

@Grechofficial went to TikTok recently and said, “I never thought the person in the car next to me listening to some sploinky ass music would have the impact on the EDM community that it did, but I just want to say I appreciate you for embracing the sploink. We have something very interesting coming up for you guys. I’m sure it’ll make you feel weird in all the right ways.”

Grab your pashminas and bucket hats and get ready for the sploinkiest of tunes. Subtronics has a packed schedule this summer including a handful of festival appearances including Electric Forest, HARD Summer, Elements, North Coast, S2O NY, Lost Lands and more. Now everyone can get sploinky, with the new tune streaming platforms and right at the top of our weekly New Music Friday playlist
