Moon Lvnding’s Rising Stars Of 2024

There are so many new artists to listen to each year, but there are a few that stand out above the rest. The Moon Fvm has chosen 15 artists from varying genres that we think are going to the moon in 2024. These artists have already started to establish themselves and you will for sure be seeing their names a lot more over the coming months. We present to you our inaugural class of Rising Stars! Arkangel is a producer from San Diego who combines “cinematic soundscapes with elements of Indie Pop and R&B.” He released his Paradigm EP in 2023 on Enhanced’s Chill imprint as well as a remix for Klur on its Colorize imprint. His tracks have been featured on Tritonal’s Tritonia Radio multiple times. He is making waves in the deep, melodic, and progressive house scenes.

Yanoy is a house producer hailing from the home of house music, Chicago. He creates an immersive experience with basslines that will get you moving with each track. He only started producing a few years ago but has quickly gained a large following, including Martin Garrix, who has supported his tracks. Our favorite track by him is his latest release “Knee Deep.”

Hartshorn is a Happy Hardcore producer from Denver, Colorado. We sat down with him for a Who Are Ya?! last year where you can learn more about him. He just announced he will be playing Beyond Wonderland in Southern California and he just played the inaugural Bullseye festival at the end of 2023. Recently, he has also been opening for big names in the hard dance scene like Lady Faith and Deadly Guns. Green Velvet said 2024 is going to be the year of hard dance, and Hartshorn will be part of it.

Ekonovah is a Phoenix, Arizona native who has been taking his house sound international in the last year. He played a few shows during ADE in Amsterdam and has been playing shows all over the US. In addition to all those shows, he released 12 tracks in 2023 across multiple labels including Insomniac’s In Rotation imprint, Hau5trap, and Hexagon. Ekonovah will be coming to your city soon, and when he does you should go see him!

Dr. Ushuu is bringing the bass with his out-of-this-world brand of riddim. DJ Diesel, Skrillex, Samplifire, and Ivory have been rinsing out his latest track “Quasar.” He has tracks released on big labels of the bass scene like Disciple and Bassrush. He’s already played Tomorrowland, Rampage, Lost Lands, and Forbidden Kingdom, so he’ll probably be at the next festival you attend and you won’t want to miss his set!

Tsu Nami is making some of the best Future Bass we’ve heard in a while. She played the Circuit Grounds stage at EDC Las Vegas and supported Jai Wolf on his Blue Babu tour in 2023. San Holo has been a big supporter for years and has constantly featured her music on Bitbird Radio. She will be playing Beyond Wonderland in March, so if you’re attending, go check out her set!

Homemade Spaceship is making experimental bass with a twist in the bass capital, Denver, Colorado. He regularly includes instruments like guitar and flute in his tracks, and they are always space-themed. Moon Lvnding surely supports the space theme! He self-released his first album Ghost Ride The Spaceship in August of last year. Hop in his spaceship if you’re ready to get vibey.

Not much is known about French house artist Square Perception. They have caught the attention of AC Slater and have released a few EPs on his Night Bass record label. They are creating a new sound within the bass house genre, leaning more into the experimental side of it. This can be heard throughout their album MIND, released in August of 2023.

Usaybflow has been supported by the dubstep icon Excision. Maybe it’s because he performs in a banana suit or because he’s also a fellow Canadian making heavy dubstep. He performed at Lost Lands in 2021 and has opened for some of the biggest names in dubstep like Subtronics and Virtual Riot when they play in Canada. He just got his U.S. visa approved, so expect to see him on more lineups soon!

BLUPRNT is another Chicago-based house artist who is setting himself apart by combining tech and bass house into tracks that will get the dancefloor moving. Diplo, Dr. Fresh, Matroda, and DJ Susan have all been playing his tracks. He played Club Coast at North Coast in 2023 and will hopefully land on more festival lineups in 2024.

Lumasi is an experimental bass producer in Denver, Colorado. He combines wobbly basslines with more gentle sounds like chimes to create a hypnotizing vibe that completely immerses you in the sound. In 2023 he released an official remix of LSDREAM’s track “Follow The Vibe” and played Sound Haven alongside Lab Group, Truth, and Yheti. He will be supporting Liquid Stranger on a few dates of his upcoming Expansion Tour. We suspect a release of one of his original tracks on Wakaan is in his future.

Dustin Husain is a trance producer from Southern California. His tracks have been supported by trance legends like Ferry Corsten and Armin Van Buuren. 2023 was a big year for him, playing both EDC Las Vegas and Dreamstate. 2024 is already looking promising since he will be playing at Beyond Wonderland. TRYPBOX are a house duo based in Los Angeles that formed in 2020. They have received support from Wuki, Don Diablo, Dr. Fresch, and AC Slater. They have also been featured on Space Yacht lineups and compilations. You can’t help but bounce around and smile when you listen to their music. Even though they make house music, they were able to remix Bandlez and Crankdat’s dubstep banger “Ground Shake” into a bouncy future house tune. We’re looking forward to more releases and show announcements from them in 2024.

Drew Dapps has slowly been taking over the minimal house scene. He is based out of San Diego and spends his free time skateboarding. We sat down with him for a Who Are Ya?! in 2021 and he has done so much since then! He crossed Space Yacht off his bucket list and has opened for Layton Giordani to ring in the new year. His new EP Word On The Street will be dropping on January 19, be sure to check it out.

BVRRN is a house DJ from Palm Springs, California whose specialty is Melodic Bass House. We’ve been big fans of him since 2021 when he made a guest mix for our Mothership Radio series. He recently played a Space Yacht show and at Splash House alongside Wax Motif, Vintage Culture, and LP Giobbi. His latest single “Lose Control” will make you do just that on the dancefloor, and we can’t get enough of it!

Chris Lake Elevates The Chemical Brothers’ “No Reason” With Remix Masterpiece

Chris Lake has done it again, taking the music world by storm last week with his latest remix of The Chemical Brothers‘ groove-infused track, “No Reason.” Released by EMI / Virgin Records, this remix follows the success of two other official “No Reason” remixes by Ewan McVicar and O’Flynn. The original track, a highlight of The Chemical Brothers’ recent album For That Beautiful Feeling, now receives the Chris Lake treatment, promising a new level of dance floor euphoria.

For those unfamiliar with Lake’s remix repertoire, a glance at his versions of “Dummy” by Portugal. The Man and “Who Are You?” by Maine will set high expectations. And true to form, Chris Lake delivers spectacularly, harnessing the infectious bassline of “No Reason” and elevating it with his signature style.

Lake’s expertise shines in building immense anticipation before each drop. The track benefits from three distinct yet flawlessly executed pre-drop builds, each leading into a uniquely funky kick and bass combo. These elements maintain thematic cohesion with the original while injecting a fresh, exhilarating energy. The first and last drops are particularly noteworthy, where the bass seamlessly glides into purely ecstatic moments.

Mantra Sounds Releases ‘Seeing Red’ EP

Music is an expression of emotion. For the audience, it can be felt, resonated with, and used for inspiration! For the artist, it is a sense of release, a medium for that person to process the crazy life they live and express themselves to the world. This holds true when listening to Mantra Sounds’ new EP Seeing Red.

This 3-track EP was incrementally released last week, and gave fans insight into the personal life behind Mantra Sounds. The first track, “Psychosis,” was a track that flowed out like liquid gold once the first line was written. The message? Talk your shit and OWN IT! Mantra Sounds shared, “When I listen back to this song I think the main thing it hits on is getting back in your bag, feeling yourself, and remembering who the fuck you are.”

The second track, “Target Practice,” showcases a wider range of emotions. It tells the story of recognizing pain, accepting where you are, and understanding that the mask of passion can be pain under the surface. It is about being at rock bottom, but knowing that the only way to go is up. 

The final track, “Exodus,” carries a different tone from the other tracks. This R&B-inspired song is a final release. In an interview, Mantra Sounds says, “This outro represents fully checking out of something, accepting it for what it is, and looking forward.” In collaboration with producer McWavy who supplied the stems, Mantra Sounds’ original lyrics matched perfectly to create a smooth, emotional outro to wrap up Seeing Red.

In our interview with Mantra Sounds, she was excited for her fans to listen to this EP. With “Psychosis” and “Target Practice” being two of her favorite beats created to date, anticipation for the release was high. Bedouin Announce Club Space Residency

Give thanks Miami! A new chapter in the Magic City’s dance music scene is set to unfold December 15. Renowned Middle Eastern duo Bedouin are bringing their unique brand of contemporary techno back home to the iconic Club Space. The venue regarded as a Mecca for electronic music lovers to dance until sunrise and beyond, will be enveloped in ethereal melodies for the duo’s bi-monthly residency that includes subsequent performances on February 17 and April 6. Opening night is sure to be a sonic masterpiece—the internationally acclaimed duo will grace the illustrious Terrace with the spellbinding sounds of their debut album, “Temple Of Dreams” supported by maestros Francesca Lombardo, Notre Dame, Ms. Mada, and Thunderpony.

Bedouin released their first album this past May after years of performing around the globe and received international praise for the unforgettable Middle Eastern-inspired beats that take listeners on a transformative journey through sound. Since this release, the duo has been venerated with remixes by esteemed producers Damian Lazarus, Vintage Culture, Made By Pete, Robin, LP Giobbi, and Catz ‘N Dogz, with more to come from Santiago Garcia and Nandu. The latest installment, Remixes Part 4 was released today, featuring Harry Romero and Anja Schneider.

Harry Romero brings his signature steamy and chunky house style to “Flore Chico”, blending powerful kick drums with lush chords. The result is a captivating dance floor anthem with organic percussion and soul-stirring synths. On track 2, a mainstay in Berlin’s underground scene and leader of Sous Music, Anja Schneider transforms “Fortune Teller” into a minimal masterpiece. The track features lithe piano chords over wavy drums and warm percussion, creating a punchy yet fluid late-night groove.

Rami Abousabe and Tamer Malki chose the name Bedouin as a nod to the nomadic tribes that reside between their homelands of Jordan and Egypt. A fitting name, as they have been on the move performing music around the world since 2012. Over that span, the duo released several singles and EPs but never a full album—until this year. Rami & Tamer knew that when they finally released an album it had to be thoughtfully curated and significant. Throughout their career, they set aside songs that they felt could be album material until they presented “Temple Of Dreams” this past May. In the album, you can hear Bedouin’s signature style which incorporates ancient instruments into their hypnotic melodies to create honest musical expression that goes far beyond dance music alone. There is no better capsule to experience this confluence of culture and sound than the legendary Space Terrace!

Apocalypse: Zombieland – 4 Artists You Can’t Miss

A bass head’s dream is coming to Long Beach, California! Insomniac’s latest festival debut, Apocalypse: Zombieland, brings some of the biggest names in bass music to the haunted Queen Mary this weekend November 24 – 25. Be sure to get there early to see these four up-and-coming bass artists to kick off Insomniac’s newest festival.

Shanghai Doom

This duo comes from New Jersey and has played at festivals like WAKAAN, Home Bass, and Ubbi Dubbi. Shanghai Doom got their start in 2017 and finds their inspiration in the more sinister things in life. Their experimental, dark, and heavy music has drawn support from Excision and Liquid Stranger. They’ve released music on both WAKAAN and Cyclops Recordings. Check out some of their songs here and make sure you don’t miss them at 3 pm on the Zombieland stage: “Lightspeed,” “Coconuts,” and “Ripper.”

Point.Blank

This Belgium dubstep OG brings his hardcore bass music to the shores of Long Beach. He has been DJing and producing since 2010. His song “Riding” with Jessica Audiffred has over 600,000 streams on Spotify. With songs on Subsidia, Never Say Die, and Disciple Round Table, you know he is going to bring the bass to start your day. Don’t miss Point.Blank at 4 pm on The Lab stage and check out these tunes to get you hyped: “Wonky” and “Drop That.”

Phibes

Kick off Day 2 with this UK drum and bass artist. Phibes have been one of the top-selling D&B artists on Beatport in the past 12 months with the #1 song “Home Grown.” Their Third Dimension EP hit #1 on Beatport in October 2020 and Phibes played at festivals like Glastonbury and Boomtown. You won’t want to miss the madness this duo brings to the stage at 4 pm at the Containment Zone.

SuperAve

The final artist we’re highlighting on Day 2 comes from South Carolina. SuperAve draws influence from 90s hip hop and futuristic heavy bass. His passion to push the limits of bass music while paying homage to his hip-hop roots has built his reputation in the bass community. He burst onto the scene in 2019 with heaters like “STEP UP,” “RUM,” and “DAYTONS.” You’re not going to want to miss his early set at 2 pm on the Apocalypse stage.

It Isn’t Easy Being Green — Who Are Ya?! With Green Matter

Anita is a 23-year-old Denver native with lime-green hair. You might recognize her as a rising dubstep producer who goes by the name Green Matter. We caught up with her over coffee to chat about her new EP and how she got to where she is today for our latest installment of Who Are Ya?!

She started dying her hair green in high school because it “looked cool under black lights when I was at shows and people started recognizing me for it.” When she was trying to come up with her artist name in 2018, her dad helped her brainstorm. He had seen an album called “Blue Matter” so he suggested, “What about Green Matter?” and it stuck!

Green Matter’s obsession with the old-school dubstep sound goes all the way back to the beginning, with the OGs like Skream, Benga, Flux Pavilion, and Excision. Her older brother took her to see a Skrillex B2B Knife Party set on Halloween of 2012 and that show prompted her desire to produce dubstep. In 2016, she downloaded Abelton and dove right into teaching herself how to produce. Her brother and friends showed her some tips and tricks, but most of what she knows she learned from YouTube tutorials or from trial and error when attempting to emulate her favorite parts of tracks from her artistic influences. Even though she is a dubstep producer, she is inspired by Porter Robinson, his side project Virtual Self, and older techno.

When she was developing her sound, she went with her instincts stating, “I like this sound, this sparks joy to me, so I leaned heavily into that and did what came natural to me.” Recently she has approached formulating new tracks by “playing on the keyboard, messing around until I find a catchy melody that really sticks and start building from there.” It could also mean starting out with a classic sounding bass line, it varies per track. Tracks take her anywhere from two to four months to feel complete enough to be mastered because “as a perfectionist, it never really feels done.” 

If you have yet to listen to Green Matter’s work, she recommends you check out “Speakers Knockin’” because “that is my most well-known track at this point and where I really started to dial in my sound and style.” In dubstep, there are a few record labels that every artist dreams of working with, like Flux Pavillion and Doctor P’s Circus Records. Green Matter has released not only on Circus, but also on Excision’s Subsidia, Ganja White Night’s SubCarbon, and Mersiv’s MorFlo. She would love to work with Zeds Dead’s Deadbeats and Liquid Stranger’s Wakaan in the future.

In the two years since her last EP, Green Matter tapped into her emotions. Using music as her outlet, she composed her latest EP, Peace in Chaos, which was released last week. The theme of this EP is “finding my peace within this chaotic life that I live and having to ground myself when everything around me is falling apart or stressful.” The first track “Between The Stars” is about feeling alone and as you progress through the EP, the tracks give a sense that you are closer and closer to getting through it. They all have more melodic intros that morph into heavy drops. She worked with a few different collaborators including Charmae, Yvga, Feelmonger, and Spellwork. She loves all of their work and appreciates their input in bringing her vision to life. Her favorite track on the EP is “Mind Visions” with Feelmonger. She told us that if she could collaborate with anyone on a track in the future, it would be G Jones.

Some of Green Matter’s most memorable moments in her journey so far include the first time she played Mission Ballroom in Denver in 2021 and winning Excison’s Bass Music Initiative in 2022. “It gave me so much confidence and made me feel secure in what I was doing to get recognition from someone I’ve looked up to for a decade.” From there, she was also able to perform at both Bass Canyon and Lost Lands. Other notable shows she’s played include Subtronics Cyclops Cove in 2022 and Forbidden Kingdom in 2023. Her favorite performance so far was her sold-out headlining show in Louisville, Kentucky. She also attended a Jantsen show at Meow Wolf’s House of Eternal Return and was able to go B2B with him because she had her USB with her. If she could perform at any festival, her top three would be Electric Forest, EDC Las Vegas, and Tomorrowland.

While there have been quite a few ups in her career so far, there have also been some downs. As a woman in the male-dominated bass scene, she has faced plenty of adversity. She recounts some producers have been passive-aggressive towards her and given her the cold shoulder. “There was this certain energy that people would have towards me, like I’m in it for the wrong reasons and was only getting certain opportunities because I’m a woman.” She’s had to prove herself constantly and has noticed “a lot of white men are skyrocketing to the top and getting opportunities from people that have had eyes on my project for years but now these other people are a priority.”

Over the last few years, Green Matter has crossed some big goals off her list, but she has a few more that she wants to tackle in 2024. She wants to “continue to build up my catalog of unreleased tracks to play at shows; create a live set that incorporates more midi pads, keyboards, and drum pads; and transition to working as Green Matter as my full-time job.”  

If you want to catch a live Green Matter performance, you’ll have a few more opportunities this year. She will be performing in California for the first time next weekend at Insomniac’s Apocalypse ZombieLand festival. Across the country in New York, she will be supporting Ravenscoon on one of the last stops of his Periphery tour on Dec. 8. Back in Colorado, she has a couple more shows scheduled including one in Colorado Springs as direct support for III Gates on Dec. 2 and another in Denver with Level Up on Dec. 15. Green Matter’s sister, who does all of her media, will also be joining her on all of these dates.

She’s not into the gory kind of scary movies, but rather the psychological thrillers. LP Giobbi Ends The “Waiting” For Soulful Single

Dance music producer LP Giobbi teamed up with Redfield and DJ Rae for the rapturous new single “Waiting,” which was released on Diplo’s Higher Ground label on Friday, November 10. This is another step forward in what has been a massive year for LP Giobbi, releasing her debut album Light Places, launching her label imprint Yes Yes Yes, playing an international headline tour, and continuing to support LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC creators through her non-profit, FEMME HOUSE.

LP Giobbi shared, “This track came to life in London when Redfield brought an idea into the session, and we started building a track around DJ Rae’s vocals. After some back and forth, ‘Waiting’ was born.” DJ Rae added, “There’s some real soul in this vocal. The inspiration comes from a special place, which gives the record a unique energy. All the elements have married together to make this a killer collaboration.”

Mikey Lion Gets Groovy With “You Only Die Once” Remix

Mikey Lion, the Desert Hearts co-founder and house music maestro, released a much-anticipated remix of Destructo’s “You Only Die Once” featuring Snoop Dogg. The track comes from Destructo’s label, All My Friends Records, and stands as a testament to Lion’s unique ability to transform beats into an electrifying experience. YODO!

Proppa‘s journey through the EDM scene has seen his sound evolve, but his unwavering passion has remained a constant force in his evolution. He has made a name for himself in the underground house scene with his extensive catalog of banging “Proppa Treatments” remixes on his SoundCloud. With two releases already making waves under his current label EXCEED, a division of Vicious Records, Proppa celebrated a milestone as one of his coveted remixes broke through to major streaming platforms. Last Friday, November 3, he unleashed “Always On Time.”

In this tune, he reimagines the classic Ja Rule and Ashanti hit with a tech-house twist that’s pure Proppa featuring irresistibly groovy, mood-setting guitar riffs and an iconic vocal above a relentless bassline. Brodie Kime: Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Proppa: I’m Proppa! I’m a 28-year-old DJ and producer from Chicago.

BK: How long have you been making music? Do you play any instruments? What is your hardware/software setup like? How do you feel technology has evolved your music?

P: I’ve been making music for nearly 12 years. I play pretty much anything you put in my hands if I have a few minutes to figure it out. But I mainly play guitar and drums. I have a studio at home that I take a lot of pride in. It’s acoustically treated and the perfect creative rocket ship to work in every day. I use Logic Pro!

BK: How has starting your own Patreon and being involved with Dropgun evolved your knowledge of producing? Do you have any other thoughts on how Patreon has helped your career since starting it?

P: Both of my endeavors with Patreon and Dropgun have been way more beneficial than I initially imagined. Working in both capacities has forced me to double down on the basic knowledge that we often ignore. Doing Patreon work has forced me to become an expert sound designer, and I have a constant flow of new sounds for myself as a bonus. Working with Dropgun has opened many doors for me in the broader URL production community. It has also taught me how to be consistent with social media content creation.

BK: What inspires your sound, particularly in this new release?

P: “Always On Time” was just a small pawn in the broader field of my remixes. I remix songs that bring back fond memories of my childhood and teenage years. I always try to preserve the most important elements of the original and make them dancier without sounding cheesy or phoned in. I really just thought this guitar groove was asking for a groovy beat and bassline underneath.

BK: This song was originally just a Proppa Treatment. What was the process like finally getting a Proppa Treatment to the main streaming platforms?

P: It’s been tough to be honest. This was maybe the 4th attempt at getting a Proppa Treatment onto all platforms. During my first attempt, I was met with a cease and desist [order] for the song before I could finish the covered vocals and instruments. My next two attempts brought on creative challenges on their own. It’s been hard to adjust to hearing some of these remixes as covers without the original vocals and sounds. Receiving the covered vocals for “Always On Time” brought me a huge sigh of relief when I knew they could be worked with to match the original.

BK: You’ve had other Proppa Treatments go viral and do really well, can you speak on how that has helped your career? Any additional thoughts on the Missy edit?

P: In the grand scheme of things, the Proppa Treatments have done well overall. However, I don’t think I could attribute my success to the individual virality of each remix as much as it is the body of work as a whole. I was consistent for almost a whole year with releasing two and sometimes three remixes per month. I built a really good rapport with DJs in the house scene who knew that when they were downloading my remix, they were getting a crowd-pleaser. When you build out a library of songs like that, more DJs are willing to trust and support your future releases.

If I did have to reference any remix as the breadwinner, it definitely was the Missy Elliott remix. The cease and desist [order] slowed down my growth significantly. An artist with a smaller library of releases would probably be crushed, but I think I padded that fall with enough quality remixes around it to keep going. It’s a thing of the past at this point, and I’ve realized the sooner I let go of it and move on, the quicker my brand will grow.

BK: How much do you plan to keep releasing remixes and bootlegs?

P: I’m currently unsure on the state of that. Things are complicated because of my various commitments, and I’ve also been exploring new sounds and styles. I think I’m in a development period of Proppa2.0.

BK: Do you have any more projects in the works? Or, any releases with anyone else in the works you’d like to share or tease?

P: I have so many projects in the works that I forget how excited I am about them. I have so much finished music at the moment. I’m exploring some faster speeds of house and different sound design. Of what I can talk about, I have a hot remix collab cooked up with DJ Susan, a dirty original tech house track with Diskull, and an epic classic dance remix wrapping up with my Ancient.exe. I have a lot more collabs in the works that I’m keeping hush on. Also, if you scroll to my most popular remix on my SoundCloud, you might notice that downloads are turned off. Hmm, I wonder why?

BK: What’s a message that you always try to portray to your fans?

P: Being authentic is the most powerful trait you could have. Being authentic can take you further in life than any shortcuts you’re presented with. In the electronic music world, that means being honest about who’s working on your music, being honest and grateful for the reasons behind your success, and consistently growing to be a better artist, brand, and role model in the scene. In the everything world, this same authenticity will take you to the top, and keep you protected while you’re up there.

Q:  Lastly, at Moon Lvnding we always try to practice gratitude. What is something that you’re grateful for right now? It can be in your personal life or career.

A: There’s too many things and I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently. I have such an amazing studio at home, one that I have only ever dreamed of till this year. I have an amazing apartment to be creative in and I can’t believe it. I currently keep four active production students and I can’t thank them enough for being them. They all inspire me to keep learning, and their recent success makes me feel like I’m making a difference. I’m also very thankful for my sister. She inspires the hell out of me. She works so hard, and when she finds something she wants to do and be successful in she just… does it. Just like that. She lives down the street from me and I don’t know where I’d be without her. I’m thankful for my family and all of my music friends, I’m just a lucky guy.
