Galantis Starts MIDSOMMAR Tour With Brooklyn Tuneup

Galantis brings a fresh look and a fresh sound, along with his extensive catalog of time-tested festival anthems, on his summer run of exclusive MIDSOMMAR events. The tour kicks off this Saturday, June 27, in San Francisco and stops in a few more select outdoor locations: The Salt Shed in Chicago on August 22, and Pier 17 in New York City on September 11 + 12. Galantis also has a few summer festival appearances on his schedule, including this Friday, June 26, at Electric Forest and on August 1 at Veld in Toronto.

It’s been nearly two months since Galantis started messaging about The Devil’s Tax Return. Last month, we finally got our first official taste of the new era of Galantis with his release, “Stay Alive,” through the Ninja Tune imprint Counter Records. The song signals a fresh start and a freer feeling for Galantis, featuring hopeful lyrics and playfulness in the melody.

Those feelings of hope and playfulness were amplified by Galantis during his recent live performance as a late addition to Martin Garrix’s Americas Tour. Galantis came out and rocked the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Thursday, June 11. There was a lightness to him behind the decks as he bounced around with the crowd to his timeless classic. He also relished adding to the live experience by playing along with drums and a cymbal to select tunes. He dialed it back to 2016 with his deep catalog of songs but kept it fresh with tasty new remixes and a few IDs along with “Stay Alive.”

If the hour-long set opening for Garrix is a sample of what’s to come for this new chapter of Galantis, I’m totally here for it. The passion for the new project with Ninja Tune was reflected through Galantis’ energy and excitement, and I’m curious to hear what comes next. Lucky for those at Electric Forest and the first MIDSOMMAR show this weekend in San Francisco who get to hear it! Speaking to Billboard, Galantis shared:

Signing with Ninja Tune imprint Counter Records feels incredibly special to me… Ninja Tune is a label I’ve admired since the ‘90s and to be part of that family with Galantis feels like coming home to music that shaped me. This is also the first time in my career that I’m not signed to a major label, and it’s completely changed the way I create music. I feel a freedom and inspiration I haven’t felt in a long time, it reminds me why I fell in love with making music in the first place. It’s a new era for Galantis, and The Devil’sTax Return marks the opening of this next chapter – serving as an ode to the music that always inspired me. Honestly, I couldn’t be more fired up!”
