This Valentine’s Day, the dynamic electronic duo EAZYBAKED released a soulful, intimate 4-track EP, Respawn, a defining moment in their artistic evolution. Known for their electrifying performances and contemporary take on bass music, this EP diverges from their heavy bass roots to create a more emotive and powerful display of their real-life experiences. Despite this shift in sound, fans have been anxiously awaiting the release of Respawn as EAZYBAKED has been sharing glimpses into the EP in live sets over the last year.
“This EP is a testament to love in all its forms — the love we share with others and the vital act of self-love,” said EAZYBAKED. “[Okay]Kayo’s voice was a major source of inspiration and opened up our minds to more possibilities.”
The first track, “ThewayUwalk” begins with calming nature sounds before the beat gradually picks up, setting the stage for OkayKayo’s ethereal vocals as he softly sings, “I know that you are mine.” His voice drifts through the mix, creating a dreamlike atmosphere before panning to a man’s voice, who reflects on the journey of self-discovery: “A symbolic journey intertwined with the fabric of our being. As beings, we are in constant evolution, yet the process of navigating the horizons often feels like a desperate attempt to outrun the shadows of our own past.”
As his words fade, the beat builds once more, seamlessly weaving back into OkayKayo’s mesmerizing vocals. The track continues to evolve, leading to a powerful closing moment where the man’s voice returns with a final, thought-provoking statement: “You gotta just go for it. Don’t think about what came after or what comes before. You just gotta bend your knees, take a deep breath, and jump. And you might think, ‘What if I fall?’ Oh no — what if you don’t? What if you’re flying?” The track leaves listeners with a sense of reflection, peace, and a reminder to embrace where you are in life.
“’ThewayUwalk’ came during another period of big change in my life,” said Okaykayo. “The first line, ‘I’ve been by myself in times of change but I know it’s okay,’ captures that moment perfectly. Coming off the hype of ‘Respawn,’ I really wanted to impress the boys and initially went in hard with bold vocals. But Eric told me, ‘Less is more for this one,’ which made me rethink my approach. I tapped into a softer, chill tone that ended up fitting the track beautifully. In a way, these two songs are like opposites: ‘Respawn’ was about losing someone and wishing for a reset, while ‘ThewayUwalk’ is about finding love again and feeling at peace with where you are. I hope this song can bring some comfort to those going through change and maybe are feeling alone. Knowing I always have myself is something that has literally saved my life in the past.“
The second track of the EP, “WithoutU” with the bakers (EAZYBAKED’s side project), carries warm, hopeful energy, with the phrase “I don’t want to be without you” repeating throughout the song, layered over a harmonizing, uplifting beat. A deeply sentimental and relatable track, it resonates with fans navigating the complexities of new and old love.
“Our personal experiences deeply influenced the creative process,” EAZYBAKED shared. “Andrew was embarking on a new chapter as a single father, establishing his own independent life. I was experiencing the exhilaration of new love and the transformative experience of leaving my hometown and family home to embrace a new beginning.”
Reflecting on the emotional depth of the project, they added, “This project holds a very special place in our hearts, and we hope this music helps people in the same ways it helped us. <3”
“The title track, ‘Respawn,’ was created the night before our Electric Forest adventure,” said EAZYBAKED. I [Eric] presented a core melodic idea to Kayo, knowing he would be able to bring it to life. The instrumental foundation we sent him was titled ‘Respawn,’ and he masterfully elevated it. Collaborating with Kayo is an effortless and truly inspiring experience. We openly share feedback and trust each other’s artistic vision.”
The title track, “Respawn,” opens with a light beat and nature sounds, accompanied by a man speaking about life and its challenges. He reflects, “Responding mirrors the cycle of life, where we encounter challenges, experience failures, and ultimately find the strength to rise again.” As his words fade, the energy shifts—a catchier, more upbeat rhythm takes hold, layered with OkayKayo’s harmonious vocals. He begins with the poignant line, “I can’t move on. It is taking too long.“ Throughout the song, he wrestles with the struggle of needing to move forward but feeling uncertain about whether he can. Ultimately, he realizes that life is about facing adversity with resilience, as we all have the human capacity to learn and respawn from our experiences. The track concludes with a powerful realization: “I can’t take too long, because one day we will all be gone.”
“‘Respawn’ was the first song that really clicked with the boys and me,” said Okaykayo. “I was at my good friend Emma Lee’s house when Eric sent me the track, and I’m not even sure he meant for me to put vocals on it at first—but I did, and we all ended up loving it. At the time, I was going through a brutal breakup with my best friend and girlfriend, which left me feeling blocked out, like she wouldn’t even ‘respawn.’ I was also dealing with this deep desire to disappear and restart in a new life. Writing that song was cathartic—it helped me process those heavy emotions and sparked a lot of personal growth. It also brought Eric and I closer. We’re both super emotional and similar in many ways, and I think that really shines in the music. I hope listeners can feel the emotion the boys and I both put into this song and I hope it can help them in the same ways it helped me to make it.”
“Therapy,” the shortest track on the EP, begins with a sound reminiscent of flowing water before gradually building into a light, uplifting rhythm. With no distinct vocals, the track evokes emotions of hope and love, making it the perfect soundtrack to hold your loved ones close or dance with your rave fam.
“We intend for listeners to experience a profound emotional journey — a spectrum of hope, love, healing, growth, sorrow, joy, vulnerability, authenticity, and pure emotion,” said EAZYBAKED.
Reflecting on the creative process, they shared, “Finalizing the artwork and bringing this project to fruition presented our biggest challenge. This endeavor marked a significant milestone for us—our first time collaborating with a vocalist and exploring music with this level of emotional depth. It was incredibly liberating to trust our instincts and push the creative boundaries to this point. While releasing this project feels daunting, we approach it with a sense of excitement and vulnerability.”
