PhaseOne, hailing from Sydney, Australia, has quickly established himself in the hardline EDM scene with his unique sound, described as “a symphony of filth.” He fuses metal and electronic music as a producer, guitarist, and songwriter. PhaseOne seamlessly merges his signature high-octane bass sound with soaring melodies, crushing guitar riffs, and a powerful lineup of collaborators from the electronic and rock/metal worlds. He continues to make waves in the industry with the release of his sophomore album, TERRANOVA.
TERRANOVA is an exciting new chapter for PhaseOne. Known for his unique blend of metal and dubstep, he continues to push creative boundaries with this album. Following his 2019 debut, Transcendency, TERRANOVA is a concept-driven collection that dives into the themes of destruction and renewal. The album starts with the cinematic title track, featuring a heartfelt monologue by PhaseOne’s wife. She acts as Mother Nature, reflecting on humanity’s challenges and the promise of Earth’s rebirth. “Writing my sophomore album has been a true endeavor, especially following the success of my debut. It took over a year to complete, with personal challenges and creative hurdles, but I’m incredibly proud of the result. It’s more melodic than I expected. Each track has structure—verses, choruses, solos—and incredible vocal toplines. That’s something I feel has been missing in today’s dubstep scene. I wanted to bring that back, while still pushing forward. Clocking in at 10 songs, the album is meticulously curated for quality and impact over quantity. Some might expect more, but I didn’t want to dilute the experience. Every track had to stand out and hold its weight. I didn’t want to make a collection of club bangers; I wanted to tell a story and create something cohesive that flows from beginning to end.” – PhaseOne
Rooted in the Latin phrase “new earth,” TERRANOVA takes listeners on a genre-blending journey that explores themes of growth, hope, environmental awareness, and the darker aspects of human impact. The visuals throughout the project emphasize this concept. The tree of life depicted in “SOS” symbolizes creation; “Pulse” presents a vision of destruction as it burns down this tree; and “Divide” showcases a barren, dystopian aftermath. The final album artwork completes this narrative with an image of a golden, post-human world—resilient, reborn, and thriving.
This year, he has performed at impressive events like SVDDEN DEATH’s Voydome and toured with Crankdat.
