Meet Joseph Shestko, better known by his stage name, Ruens. The Tucson native, now based in Los Angeles, is making waves in the electronic music scene thanks to his ability to craft a unique sound that spans various genres. One of Ruens’ defining characteristics as an artist is his versatility. Whether it’s house, mid-tempo, or drum and bass (DNB), he has a remarkable talent for seamlessly transitioning between genres, capturing the hearts of music lovers and dance enthusiasts alike.
A Journey into Sound
Joseph’s musical voyage began when he stumbled upon the fascinating sounds of Excision while exploring the depths of YouTube. This chance encounter ignited a spark within him, driving him to dive headfirst into music production. Determined to pursue his passion, Joseph enlisted in the Navy for four years to fund his dream education at ICON Collective Music School.
At ICON, Joseph honed his musical skills, delving deep into music theory and production techniques. The school provided him with the foundation he needed to kickstart his career in music, but he did not stop there. After completing his studies at ICON, Shestko continued his education at The Los Angeles Film School, where he further refined his production skills.
The Birth of Ruens
In 2021, Joseph Shestko unveiled his alter ego, Ruens. With a mission to convey a distinctive sound that resonates with emotion, Ruens set out to create art that would light up the darkest days of his global audience. His music is beloved by many for the effortless transitions between vocal melodies and incredible soundscapes.
While Ruens has been making a name for himself as a solo artist, his electronic excursion began as part of a dubstep trio called DoBadlyy. He stepped away from the group in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but rejoined in June of this year, making it a trio once again. Together, they define their brand as “dark bass music” and have seen significant success, including a performance at Bass Canyon this year!
Upcoming Releases and Performances
Ruens has been busy in the studio too. He recently dropped a remix of Diesel’s hit track, “Hit Em Like,” that showcases his unique take on electronic music. Another recent release, “Dark Silhouettes,” is also a prime example of his ability to craft spellbinding music that transcends genres. Fans can also look forward to his upcoming release, “The End” featuring Matty Marz, set to drop at the end of this month. This track promises to be an energetic and melodic journey through various electronic styles, a testament to Ruens’ commitment to building a brand that defies categorization.
Exciting times lie ahead for Ruens and his fans. On Friday, October 20th, he will be taking the stage at Station 1640 in Hollywood, California, promising an electrifying performance that will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression!
