YOOKiE Electrifies Rock Classics On ‘The Dark Side of the Trash’

YOOKiE‘s new EP, The Dark Side of the Trash, reveals six flips of iconic rock classics. While maintaining rock’s free-spirited nature, YOOKiE adds their bass-ridden touch for a unique experience with Deadbeats – a label by Zeds Dead.

New York-based brothers Anthony and Chris Alfaro are no strangers to the careful mixing involved with handling such renowned samples. Throughout the EP, the duo effortlessly maintains the soul of rock hits while completely altering their soundscapes.

Several tracks on the EP were previously released as singles and set the bar high for what was to come. Namely, YOOKiE’s original “SUNSHiNE OF YOUR WUB,” which has nearly 10 million streams across platforms.

“SEVEN NATiON ARMY,” “BULLS ON PARADE,” and Nirvana’s “COME AS YOU ARE,” are the newest tracks of the EP. Truthfully, YOOKiE saved the best for last with this Deadbeats release. From working in the mixing booth to constructing the track list, the duo put every bit of intention into its planning.

YOOKiE’s spin on The White Stripes’ “SEVEN NATiON ARMY,” is the most adrenaline-packed and varied, keeping listeners guessing and gasping. Since it reflects the breakneck nature of the EP, it serves as a perfect opener for the rollercoaster ahead.

After setting the stage, YOOKiE unleashes the most intense track with their Rage Against the Machine flip. Arguably the climax, “BULLS ON PARADE,” featuring Code: Pandorum, is the heaviest song and is packed with brutality. It fits perfectly in the middle of the track list and submerges fans in YOOKiE’s sound. The mosh pit-inducing nature pulls listeners in and encourages them to embrace the rage.

Because they curate each track carefully, fans of every rock genre find something to love, from grunge to metal. Even a Beastie Boys flip is on the release, paying homage to their home state of New York.

YOOKiE plays “FiGHT FOR YOUR RiGHT” at Academy LA in Los Angeles on May 2.

YOOKiE takes their fresh EP on the road for The Dark Side of the Trash tour. Next, their 15-date run across the United States stops in Washington, D.C. on Sep. 24.

YOOKiE seamlessly merges electronic music and rock, despite little common ground, and maintains a unique production style while doing it. Listen to The Dark Side of the Trash below.
