Toronto’s own Ricky Bamboo returns with “Extrasensory,” a two-track EP that bends bass music into something otherworldly. Released June 12th on Zeds Dead’s Altered States, the project marks his third release on the imprint. He fuses downtempo, dub, and ambient textures with warped basslines and bamboo-inspired percussion. The result is hypnotic, grounded, and deeply transportive.
A student of jungle and drum & bass, Ricky Bamboo’s roots lie in Toronto’s underground rave scene. Over time, he evolved from DJ to producer. Now, his sound blends the past and future with elegant precision. “Extrasensory” opens with the title track, a slow-burning tribute to bass culture and cosmic awareness. It invites listeners into a meditative, dreamlike soundscape.

The second track, “Mission Control,” pulses with experimental energy and a psychedelic groove. Wiggling rhythms, dub echoes, and live textures drive the momentum forward. Together, both tracks create a spiritual listening experience, crafted with care and intention. Bamboo says,
“A tribute to sample culture, bass wobbles, and dub echoes — this is for the open-minded, tuned into something a little more extrasensory.“
Zeds Dead launched Altered States in 2021 to showcase the genre’s softer, more introspective side. The label blends downtempo, house, and ambient bass into a space for sonic exploration. Bamboo joins the ranks with a sound that feels both grounded and galactic. With “Extrasensory,” Ricky Bamboo reaffirms his role as a rhythm alchemist. His music is nostalgic, playful, and always intentional. Whether beneath the stars or in your headphones, this project speaks to something deeper. Tap in, tune out, and let the frequencies take over.
