Over the last decade, Lady Faith has become a legend of her own scene, widely recognized for growing the US Hardstyle scene and laying down some of the craziest and hardest beats. Her performances, including major festivals like EDC, Lost Lands, and Defqon.1, have inspired and thrilled audiences worldwide with her unique brand of Hardstyle, establishing her as the #1 Hardstyle producer in America.
After this year’s Escape Halloween, I had the fantastic opportunity to sit down with the legend herself. Get ready to learn about who she is, her inspirations, and what will come for Lady Faith.
Chris Savoie: Outstanding set at Escape! I know you live out in LA; how was it playing in front of your home crowd this past weekend?
Lady Faith: Escape was incredible! It is my favorite SoCal festival. Other than the crazy traffic heading to Dodgers Stadium and the World Series. We wanted to get there early, and while it ended up taking hours to get there, it was amazing.
CS: That World Series traffic was crazy! It also took us four hours to get there. Outside of DJing and music, can you tell me more about who Lady Faith is?
LF: On stage, I portray this larger-than-life persona, but outside of that, I am quiet and shy. I have a core group of friends and family that I hang out with mostly. I love being at home with my dogs, who are my children. Their names are Gracie and Sophia — my two little Yorkiepoos. If I am not touring, I am home spending time with them, my friends and family, and making new music.
CS: That is amazing! I love dogs and can totally relate — I used to have a chocolate lab. Switching gears a bit, how does it feel to be the #1 hardstyle producer in the US and dubbed the “Queen of Hardstyle?”
LF: It’s quite humbling because I don’t really see myself as that, I always see myself as one of the people. I am very close to my fans. I see them as much as possible and spend as much time with them as I can. I try my very best to be a role model and bring the best to my craft and performances. I am grateful people see me in that light and work hard every day to grow the scene and grow our Faithful family.
CS: It is inspiring that you love to be that close with your fans and focused on growing the hardstyle scene and your Faithful family. How did you get into the music industry and DJing?
LF: I often get asked this question, and it’s a funny story. I saw a female DJ in a club in LA; she’s a UK hard house artist named Lisa Lashes. I was floored by her existence and didn’t know it was an option for me. I’ve always wanted to be in music. Growing up Persian, music has been a part of my life since birth. I played clarinet and guitar as a kid and even considered singing, but I found out early on that I didn’t have the voice for it. However, when I saw her, a lightbulb went off in my head, and I knew that’s what I wanted to do.
CS: That’s incredible! It’s so inspiring that a female artist sparked that realization for you. Have you ever had the chance to meet her or share this story with her?
LF: I actually did have the chance to meet Lisa Lashes at an event in Northern California. I played early in the day and waited hours to meet her. After her set, I met her and told her how she inspired me to become a DJ. She is so sweet and so kind; she is the true queen.
CS: That is so cool that you were able to meet her and tell her that story. I’m sure it meant a lot. You mentioned being Persian, and I can only imagine being female in a male-dominated industry. How was it coming up in the music industry being not only a woman but one of Persian descent?
LF: It has not been easy. Being Persian isn’t a factor because I am in America, and we are a melting pot. But the industry is male-dominated. I’ve had to prove I am not a fake DJ; I don’t play a prerecorded set and know the music. It is still a boys club, and breaking through that barrier has been difficult. You can count on one hand the females who are in Hardstyle, and I do my best to inspire young females to join our genre. There are a lot of male DJs who are my friends and inspire me and work with me that I love. For example, I remixed Wasteland by Prophet and Keltek. I am grateful that they gave me the chance to put my spin on it. The more support female artists get, the more it will inspire the newer generation and pave the way for them to join this industry.
CS: I appreciate you sharing all of that. Breaking that mold and growing the female presence is a passion of yours. What are you doing today to help develop that female presence in the scene?
LF: I try to lead by example. Be the best I can be to show females there is a successful road you can take in the hard dance genre. Being a female artist in EDM will always be challenging; there is no shortcut. I hope the interviews I do and everything I post online will serve as a roadmap for female artists to follow. I am always here to support and talk to them so they know someone is here for them as they try to grow their careers.
CS: It is encouraging that you are so open to helping others and creating that roadmap to show females how to succeed in this industry. What inspires you today?
LF: Everything, my daily life, my fans, the scene. The PLUR life, everything inspires me to do better and be better. I love the scene so much, and we are doing so well right now. Every little thing in my life inspires me.
CS: Taking inspiration from everything around you, I love it. Switching gears again — you just played one of my personal all-time favorite festivals, Lost Lands. How was it? How was the crowd?
LF: It was crazy and surprising. I played an afterparty set, and the crowd had so much energy — it was so amazing. I loved it and want to go back next year. They should bring Hardstyle to one of the main stages next year; the crowd was going crazy.
CS: Us bass heads do love to go crazy. I am happy you had a fun set and memorable time, and I hope to see you there again next year. What is your favorite festival that you’ve played and one you are dying to play?
LF: Ooo, good question. Let’s see. I would have to say my favorite festival is EDC Las Vegas. I love that festival with my heart and soul. I’ve played it 12 years in a row, which is incredible, and I am already counting down until next year. My second favorite is Defqon.1. It is all Hardstyle and hardcore music. If you haven’t been or seen the videos, it is out of this world.
The festivals I would like to play are Ultra Miami and Tomorrowland. The tough part for those two is it’s difficult to get into play. Especially Tomorrowland, given that it’s in Europe, but I have faith that I will play both.
CS: EDC LV is also my favorite, but you have me beat with 12; I’m only at 8. I have seen the videos of Defqon.1, and they look absolutely insane. You have played and collaborated with many great names; who was your favorite, and who would you love to collaborate with?
LF: That is a tough one. For my favorite collab, I am going to go with my latest release. Wasteland with Prophet and Keltek. They are just two legends, and it was so much fun to work on. There is a song coming out next year that I can’t talk much about, but dropped a sneak peek online last week. Ok, I am too excited; I will tell you a little bit. It is a remix for Angerfist that is amazing and that I love. It’s called The Law, and I truly can’t wait for you to hear it!
Who I want to play with may surprise you a bit. I would love to collab with Timmy Trumpet because I know he loves hard style and is always such a fun time. An American DJ who might surprise you would be Diplo. I think we are so different that we could create something really cool and crazy that I think he and the fans would really enjoy. So Diplo, let’s make something crazy!
CS: You and Diplo would make a crazy song, maybe we can get his attention with this interview. What do you have coming up that you are extremely excited about?
LF: I am extremely excited about the remix for Angerfist. There are also some cool and exciting things next year that I can’t talk about just yet, so unfortunately, you just have to wait to find out. But it is very exciting and I cannot wait to show you all and tell you more.
CS: Leaving us on the edge of our seats with that one, we will be impatiently waiting to see what you have in store. Last question for you, is there anything you want to tell our readers or aspiring artists about?
LF: Always have faith in yourself and never give up.
