Rising dubstep star and underground icon NotLö has unleashed her latest creation Hallucination Effect. The Colorado-based producer has been on a rapid ascent in the scene, making waves with her onslaught of IDs and signature 140 sound. Hallucination Effect is her first solo project released on Wakaan, which follows up a successful collaborative EP with VEIL.
Hallucination Effect is a three-song masterpiece, showcasing NotLö’s incredible bass sound design, eerie FX, and sinister melodies. She has honed her craft over the years, releasing on Truth’s Deep, Dark, and Dangerous label after a slew of self-releases.
“Dimensions” feels like the quintessential NotLö track, as a deep intro coupled with faint vocals give way to a punishing bassline and crisp percussion. While containing two separate drops, the track has an incredibly cohesive feel, as the groove is incredibly consistent with the bassline jumping around the beat.
The EP’s eponymous lead single was released back on August 2 and is already making waves in the bass music community. This track features a dominant bassline with machine-like FX stabs punctuating the rhythm. NotLö also displays an incredible use of reverb, as the intro and melody both sound as if they’re being played on a proper sound system right in your living room.
Last and most certainly not least is “MAD,” NotLö’s collab with Canadian 140 dubstep and bass producer Mythm. Mythm has been carving his own niche with incredibly complex sound design and crisp production.
These two powerhouses combine forces to create a dubstep classic featuring a multitude of different bass sounds and ominous background FX. The second drop features an outstanding sustained bass synth, switching up the vibe from the quicker bass stabs in the first drop. We can only hope this is the first of many collabs between these two.
Hallucination Effect perfectly represents everything great about NotLö’s project, and after seeing her perform at Big Fam music festival this past weekend, I can assure you she will be gracing festival stages for years to come.
