Lastlings Enlist jamesjamesjames and GURPAAL To Round Out Their First Contact Remix Album

Article by: Christian Langston

Today, Japanese-Australian electronic duo Lastlings have released the final two remixes from their highly acclaimed debut album, First Contact. Out Now on Astralwerks Records and RÜFÜS DU SOL’s Rose Avenue Records, eclectic dance talent jamesjamesjames reworks “Visions” into a lo-fi house cut while emerging electronic producer GURPAAL reimagines the melodic journey behind “Held Under.”

For his take on “Visions,” jamesjamesjames went deep. Opting to use lo-fi and vintage sounds, his spin on “Visions” turns it into an after hours jam. With the original being characterized by an emotive piano, jamesjamesjames’ choice to lean into the electronic sound was a successful one.

GURPAAL takes the final slot of the album, turning “Held Under” into an upbeat dance track. Lastlings’ original version is much slower, choosing to highlight the space between their unique vintage sounds. GURPAAL opts to inject a little energy, bringing in the driving house drums early to set the vibe.

This remix album marks Lastlings’ third iteration of First Contact, with the original releasing in 2020, and the acoustic selections dropping back in March. The entire album features remixes from 18 different artists, including jamesjamesjames and GURPAAL. You can stream the whole album, and connect with these artists, using the links below!
