A champion of hard psy and American hard dance since 2016, Harsh Records founder and hard psy creator/master Starx unleashes “Monster,” the first single from his upcoming album on Insomniac’s hardstyle imprint, Basscon Records.
“Monster” is more somber than Starx’s last few releases, a heavy collab with Riot Ten and a high-energy collab with Steve Aoki and Timmy Trumpet. In this track, Tara Louise’s eerie vocals set an internal struggle over simple, trance-inspired synths. At the midpoint, Starx releases the monster with a combination of rawstyle piep kicks, a psytrance bassline, and screeches that could be the monster’s guttural screams. He then seamlessly transitions into a more traditional hardstyle second drop with punchy kicks and a bouncy bassline, accepting that the monster will never be put back in its cage.
Given his previous releases, “Monster” is just the tip of the iceberg for what is to come with Starx’s debut album. Expect him to keep pushing the hard psy genre forward over the 10-track journey when it is released later this year. Keep up with Starx and the American hard dance scene using the links below.
