GRiZ And Wreckno Produce Pride Month Anthem “Medusa”

Story By: Trevor Di Carlo

Sending off Pride Month 2020 with a bang, multi-instrumentalist producer GRiZ teamed up with producer and rapper Wreckno to create the fiery funky Pride Month anthem “Medusa.” The duo created this track to portray homosexuality as an identity that is cool and something to be proud of. “Medusa” is a dubbed out slice of spicy bass and hip-hop that screams for the empowerment of the LGBTQIA+ community, and sends the message “we’re here, we’re queer, let’s get this gouda!!”

GRiZ is well known for using his brand and platform to stand up for the equality of minorities, as well as the LGBTQIA+ community. More recently, GRiZ’s set for the Digital Mirage 2.0 Livestream Festival was streamed with the backdrop of a custom video he recorded himself at one of Denver’s Black Lives Matter protests. GRiZ generously donated his commissions from the festival proceeds to Trans Lifeline, while the organizers of the festival also contributed proceeds to Equal Justice Initiative and Color of Change.

Both artists are having a big year in 2020. GRiZ released the wonky, funk-filled fifth installment to his acclaimed Bangers.zip EP series. Then there’s his more instrumental track “Solo,” a 90’s inspired jam released on GRiZ’s 30th birthday to celebrate the occasion.

Wreckno started the year popping off with a bubbly bass single “Relapse.” He followed that up with his renowned Hypernatural EP, which embodies Wreckno’s innovative hip-hop spin on bass music. He recently expanded his library with the Hypernatural Remix Pack featuring amped up flips from Kayoh, Feelmonger, Slzrd and more.

“Medusa” features sassy, energetic, and empowering vocals from Wreckno. He sets the tone right from the start, strongly stating, “Hold up it’s the anthem. Put your fuckin’ hands up. Smilin’ cuz I’m young, rich, gay, and I’m handsome.“ Reinforced with grimey, grinding bass and funkafied screaming sirens, the song is an open invitation to get that bussy to drop down.

Hopefully “Medusa” acts as a trend starter to give LGBTQA+ producers more of a voice in the electronic music scene, while also empowering listeners to find the courage to embrace who they want to be and what they dream of achieving while being their truest selves.
