Esseks, the Brooklyn-based producer and illustrator, returns with his new brew “Boss Lair,” the second single off his upcoming LP The Villain’s Journey. Could Esseks’ latest Deadbeats release have anything to do with the coinciding lunar eclipse and full moon in Sagittarius? That’s pure speculation, but what I do know is “Boss Lair” hits the spot as a follow up to his first drop from the LP “Watching from a Distance.”
Esseks has long cultivated his stylized cartoon villain music, and he continues to evolve on “Boss Lair.” He begins the track with the buzzing and plinking of a pinball table before the distorted bassline rolls in. Hip hop lyrics are sampled as the beats build up to the drop, which unleashes creepy high-pitched synths like something out of a haunted hayride.
This newest release comes before a busy Memorial Day Weekend for Esseks, as he will be playing sets Friday, May 28 as support for Charlesthefirst at Terry Bison Ranch in Cheyenne, WY and Saturday, May 29 at Sunset Music Festival in Tampa, FL.
