Hailing from Atlanta, Chris Teel, also known as Common Creation, is an Electro Hip-Hop producer and DJ who manages to seamlessly blend live percussion and instrumentation with a unique blend of Glitch Hop, Future Funk, Dubstep, Trap and more. For his next project, Common Creation takes listeners on a journey through the stars with his EP Golden Soul Galaxy.
Kicking the EP off is “Wave Flex.” Before the percussion even begins, a euphoric blend of soul-inspired synths foreshadows what’s to come. Once the beat drops, twisting synths are matched with infectious drums that make you feel like you’re floating through our Solar System. Before long, the floating synths warp into a grimy fusion of electro-soul and bass-music that will leave listeners intrigued.
Next up is the title track, “Gold Soul.” Calling back to the euphoric synths that started the EP, pianos effortlessly and stylishly wash over you. A valley of resonance will captivate you as claps and kicks provide energy to the track. Highlighting this EP’s diversity, the track culminates with future-bass inspired synths and finishes strong.
Third on the EP is the grandeur “Come Selecta.” To put it lightly, “grace” has been replaced with “bass.” Humming and strong bass thumps match perfectly with the slower tempo of the song to create a track that is straightforward in delivering gritty, aggressive bass that still manages to be euphoric in its deliverance.
Then comes the psychedelic fascination, “Close Wonder,” featuring multi-instrumentalist Adam Stehr. Guitar riffs and unique bass are supported again by strong percussion and piano keys that seem to sparkle, bringing the audience to an intergalactic jazz room.
Finally, “Take Your Time” provides an orderly conclusion to the EP. This track brings everything back to where you started with impressive collections of trumpets and bassy electro-soul, simply encouraging a second listen through from the beginning.
