Experimental beat wizard and instrumentalist extraordinaire Common Creation makes a stop on his meteoric rise through the bass music scene for his Wakaan debut, his Tiger Blood EP. The EP showcases his outstanding sound design prowess and enchanting instrumentation. Common Creation utilizes sounds across the sound spectrum, coupling dancing toplines with deep, distorted bass, making this EP one of the most well-rounded releases of the year.
“Supplemental Seasons” is an absolute treat of an opening track. The beginning features beautiful topline arps and a groovy bass guitar riff. The brooding bass eventually takes over and combines with the topline melody to give this track incredible depth, all without forgoing the incredible groove introduced in the beginning of the track.
“Glacial Gush” builds on what “Supplemental Seasons” started. The track opening consists of airy, distant, and distorted vocals while a bass riff starts to build. The drop is more consistent, featuring a prominent bass synth throughout and one of the thickest snares imaginable. A mellow electric guitar riff is gradually introduced as the drop exhausts itself, painting an incredibly serene picture during the bridge of this tune.
“Lowkey Kick Back” might be one of the grooviest tunes on the EP. An upbeat percussive pattern and a myriad of bass synths give this track incredible danceability. Where the first few tracks of the EP make their hay in upbeat rhythms and dance floor energy, “Silent Sleeper” excels at reeling the vibes back in. This track features incredibly vivid textures, using a wide array of background FX.
Last and most certainly not least is “Mystic Morning,” which can only be referred to as six minutes and 48 seconds of pure bliss. Similar to “Silent Sleeper,” “Mystic Morning” uses a wide array of FX to give the track incredible depth and prepare the listener for a crazy bassline progression. Common Creation’s bass synths tear through the soundscape like a hot knife through butter, perfectly carving out its space. This is a mid tempo tune that is sure to set sound systems ablaze.
Common Creation is seeing hard work pay off in spades; he is booked to play the Wakaan & Sskwaan takeover of Cervantes in Denver and will open GRiZ’s inaugural Space Camp festival in December. The sky’s the limit for this talented producer and we cannot wait to see where his extraordinary talent takes him.
