Next up in our series of spotlights ahead of the ORBIT Virtual Experience is Los Angeles based artist DACK JANIELS. Born Tanner Chung and raised in the Bay Area of Northern California, Dack draws musical influences from the skateboard culture and gangster rap he enjoyed as a rebellious youth. Dack’s extensive library of singles, EPs, and remixes showcases his talents as a heavy hitting electronic dance music producer.
A graduate of the highly regarded music production school Icon Collective, Dack found his calling in the banging bass lines of dubstep. He has received support from some of the biggest names in the dubstep scene like Excision, NGHTMRE, Modestep, and Must Die. Dack’s most recent release System Shock, a two-track EP on his label imprint 40oz Cult, dropped April 20th and is packed with his signature grimy dubstep grooves.
Looking back through his library of music, Dack’s most popular track is “Swangin,” the title tune on a four-song EP, tallying over one million plays on Spotify. Other standout songs include “MURDER JUNKIE,” the Protohype collab “Savage,” a remix of the Midnight Tyrannosaurus track “The Demon,” and his 2014 classic “40oz Bounce.”
Speaking of 40s, Dack worked alongside his sister, the artist known as Wenzday, as well as HAMi, to create the record label, clothing company, and skateboarding crew 40oz Cult. In addition to some sweet threads from its clothing collection, the 40oz cult also has an extensive Spotify playlist and features a new SoundCloud compilation Fear the Forty Vol.2. Dack even teamed up with HAMi and Yakz on their recent single “Skate or Die.”
Be prepared to get down to dubstep drops and heavy bass when Dack Janiels takes over the DJ decks on May 8 for the ORBIT Virtual Experience Benefiting Feeding America.
