Hyped for HiJinx 2019

Written by: Jake Stevenson

The HiJinx Festival comes back to Philadelphia for its second year at the Pennsylvania Convention Center this Friday December 27 and Saturday December 28th. HiJinx became a must-send earlier this year when it released a killer lineup featuring Bassnectar, Excision b2b Slander, Zeds Dead, and more. The festival features a single stage, meaning no set time conflicts, leaving me and everyone else to fully experience all the amazing artists.

HiJinx 2019 boasts a legendary lineup, and these are the top three artists I’m most excited to see:

  1. SKRILLEX: A bona fide Skrillex set is something I never thought I’d get to experience in my first year of actually going to raves, yet here we are. He helped shape my love of electronic music with his “Levels” and “Cinema” remixes, making it into the Forza Horizon soundtrack, and everything he’s put out since consistently amazes me.
  2. PORTER ROBINSON: It’s no Worlds Live, but I’ll enjoy some Porter any way I can get him. “Language” also featured in Forza Horizon as the menu music, Worlds is obviously iconic, and Shelter basically saved my life. I’ll cry, for I didn’t think it could be true – I will actually see a Porter Robinson set.
  3. SUBTRONICS: This man has had a huge year in EDM, releasing several killer songs and EPs, highlighted by his collab with GRiZ on the viral hit “Griztronics” and his newest track “Bumpy Teeth,” a collab with Zeds Dead. I am ecstatic to finally witness an insane Subtronics set in all its glory.

In addition to the musical artists, set design artists were encouraged to apply and submit installation ideas via the HiJinx website, meaning there’s going to be some awesome art production inside the venue as well.

And don’t forget about the official after parties at NOTO Philly and The Foundry at The Fillmore featuring headlining acts like Zeds Dead and Slander, after the festivities at the convention center are over. The HiJinx map is here and the set times have been released, so with only days to go, the anticipation for the sold out festival is steadily building.

Whatever happens, HiJinx Festival 2019 will certainly be one for the books.
