When producer and DJ dot left Los Angeles for Idaho, she knew she was making the right decision for herself… and her career. While L.A. is one of the biggest music hubs in the world, Kate Ellwanger, otherwise known as dot, found that surrounding herself with nature elevates her music and creativity to the next level. Now she aims to share that opportunity with other artists at her Quantum Sound Artist Retreat.
For six days from June 4-9, musicians, producers, and songwriters will dive headfirst into the gorgeous scenery of Sun Valley, Idaho. Activities like hiking, yoga, meditation, and more will allow artists to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the industry and reconnect with their inner creativity. The retreat presents the unique opportunity to be surrounded by like-minded creatives looking to collaborate and connect over a shared love of sound.
In addition to the outdoor enrichment, attendees will receive 1:1 instruction from Ellwanger herself as well as feedback from their peers. Topics like marketing and music business strategy are also on the table; the retreat aims to help attendees refine their knowledge in all aspects of the music industry.
“I’m so excited to be running a third year of this artist retreat here in Sun Valley. The mountains in this part of Idaho are very sacred to me, and it’s a huge honor to share this place with fellow artists who are seeking to learn something new about themselves or their craft.
I spent a lot of the early years of my career in music education, teaching at multiple schools and colleges in the LA area, as well as running Ableton workshops for women and non-binary artists. With time, I came to realize that the most impactful lessons and moments of growth encompassed more than just a technical understanding of music theory or production, and having a holistic approach to education and artist development has been central to my programs since I began teaching through my own studio community.
My biggest goal with these retreats is to give artists experiences and lessons that can’t be found on YouTube or Social Media. Through unplugging from the matrix and reconnecting with nature, we have the opportunity to clarify and develop whatever it is that each of us is trying to convey on an emotional level, and hopefully come across some of those rare and magical moments where technique meets expression.” – Kate Ellwanger
