The Glitch Mob gives listeners an intricate and ornate sound experience with its unique approach to bass music and revolutionary live production. The trio offered up See Without Eyes in 2018 and fans came out in full force to support its 36-stop world tour in the summer as well as more Blade 2.0 shows in the US and Europe that fall. And while the EDM vets didn’t release much new music in 2019, they did team up with Seven Lions, Slander, and NGHTMRE to reach a new audience on The Alchemy tour. Imagine the surprise and excitement, when The Glitch Mob announced on Twitter that it would be releasing its newest EP Chemicals on Friday March 20th.
Chemicals encapsulates everything to love about The Glitch Mob, featuring lyrics that are symbiotic with its symphonic melodies and riveting bass lines. Title track “Chemicals” features an abstract melody, accompanied by lyrics that take listeners on a journey of what substance abuse feels like, diving deep into the ferocity of comedowns and the chemical manipulation of the mental state.
The next single “Take Control” starts off slowly, subtly adding layer upon layer of synths to give this track its own uniqueness, while leaving listeners with an uplifting feeling. Finally, “The Stance” gives a fittingly grimy conclusion to the EP, packed with digital distortions to produce a baseline showcasing what The Glitch Mob is all about.
Sadly though, it was not all good news for Glitch Mob fans. The group had planned another 36-stop tour, Drink The Sea X, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its breakthrough debut album Drink the Sea, which spawned not one, but two full remix releases. But with the uncertainty of the COVID-19 crisis, The Glitch Mob offered this heartfelt explanation about the tough decision to cancel the tour.
In times like these, it can be a constant battle to stay positive. With The Glitch Mob’s EP Chemicals, be ready to dance your feels out with this exquisitely emotional EP, quickly making its way into hearts and playlists worldwide. And if the EP is not enough, here’s one last inspirational message from The Glitch Mob’s twitter account:
“We hope everyone is staying healthy and centered in this current situation… we have been thinking about how music is medicine and is more important than ever right now. We are going to continue creating and releasing music with the intention to connect us all and to bring some levity to your day.”
