After blessing us with the collaborative effort “Clique,” long-time pals and producers extraordinaire Sully and G-Rex combine powers with their latest single “Back It Up,” out now on Wakaan.
This record showcases each producer’s incredible sound design prowess. Each bass sound is incredibly unique and distinctive, following the same catchy melody as they sit perfectly above the percussion in the mix. Each two-bar segment in the drop is punctuated by a punishing sub bass and added FX that’ll have listeners pointing their finger guns in the air.
The lead and bridge set the mood perfectly, introducing the bass melody as the percussion and vocals build. The vocals are reminiscent of old school and traditional dubstep and add another layer to this fantastic tune.
Sully is fresh off his latest EP Malfunction and a new remix for The Floozies. The Michigan native took a break from releases during the pandemic, but has come back swinging just in time as festival season kicks into gear.
G-Rex has dominated the experimental bass realm in recent memory. Primarily known for his colossal release “Babatunde” with Peekaboo, he recently put out his latest ID showcase, The Summoning III. This mix showcases everything the Detroit producer has been working on, and I cannot wait for this EP to drop as well as the rest of the amazing IDs he’s sitting on.
