ODESZA closed out their “The Last Goodbye” tour at The Gorge Amphitheatre in Quincy, WA, on July 7, 2024. During the night’s last song, sparks from the show’s pyrotechnics ignited a nearby brush, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. Fortunately, firefighters and event staff responded with remarkable speed, containing the blaze to a small area of about one-quarter of an acre. Although the fire was quickly extinguished, attendees had to evacuate, and the remainder of the night, including a specially curated encore, was canceled.
The Gorge issued a high heat warning before the show, with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources also reporting a high risk for wildfire danger and an outdoor burn ban in effect. Located roughly 150 miles from ODESZA’s hometown, the iconic venue was set to attract over 66,000 fans over three nights. Despite the incident, it is important to highlight the safety measures in place and the venue’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all attendees. Following the event, the venue released a statement to attendees:
Back in September of 2018, a rogue firework shot into the crowd during the electronic duo ODESZA’s performance left two people with minor injuries; gratefully, this time, no one was hurt. While it is always unfortunate to end a show early, we believe people understand and recognize the importance of maintaining the safety of all festivalgoers.
